St. Louis got pounded by the Dodgers. They put up a valiant effort but are fading badly. I fully expect Milwaukee to fade as well; they're well over their Pythagorean and have been unsustainably hot.

Magic number vs MIL is 13 for the moment with them playing later. STL losing pushes them down to 8. Think i'm going to stop citing their number because they seem done.

Milwaukee has two players mentioned in MVP voting, one of whom is the best defensive CF in the league. They have another great hitter and a decent hitting POS in LF. They have great infield defense, and the best back end of the bullpen.

Their starting pitching has been good enough for them to keep winning with the other pieces.

I don't care at all about their pythagorean. But I sure do nee them to drop this game they are currently losing by 2 in the 9th. 3-1 Pitt, Top 9.

St Louis has absolute zero chance of the division, but they are contending only against the West 2nd place team for the 2nd wild card. I don' think they'll win it, but it is definitely still in play as they are only back one.

But they are not contending for the Central.

I'm not quite ready to call this race over but a couple more wins by the cubs and/or losses by MIL and I will. Cubs have 14 games left and MIL has 13. If the cubs go 7-7 they finish with 94 wins. To tie, MIL need to go 9-4 and 10-3 to win the division. To be frank, I'm not sure I buy MIL even being able to go 9-4 right now because they still have a series @PIT and a series @STL who's clinging onto their playoff hopes. Either way, really liking the odds.

I check the online gamecast and see Q has gone 3-0 on Hamilton.

But Billy waits for the walk and takes three consecutive strikes. :)
