Cook was at less than half that number before Hicks went out. I get frustrated too when the corners aren't playing press coverage, and the D is among the least blitzing squads (5th) in the league. Fangio had the better scheme and overall results (17.7 ppg), and they broke their opponents will in a few games which does not happen with Pagano.
But to say this current defense is mediocre is disingenuous and does not bear out in the numbers. By definition a top 7 defense in ppg is not mediocre, and they've kept the Bears in every game. They gave the offense numerous opportunities to win the game in the 4th quarter, again.
The offense generated 2 field goals and you're saying the defense played a part in the loss. Sure.
