Teams make more money from TV and MLB Internet contracts than they do from attendance. Home teams only get a significant amount from the gate from the luxury boxes, not the seats of the regular joes. Also, some of us Sox fans don't live in Illinois or in my case in the United States. But by all means Scrub fans keep concern trolling us because your team happens to be more popular and has a national following. After all, attendance awards totally make up for 107 years and counting.
Also, most teams that play like hot garbage don't draw worth a shit, especially since the 2007-2009 recession. The Sox have won one playoff game since the 05 Series. That's not exactly a recipe for growing a fan base considering baseball's lack of popularity among millenials.
