Not gonna be too tough on OP because I stand by that he’s never even watched a UNC game

I watched plenty of UNC games. Maye also threw the game away at end today with a boneheaded INT. That said, I will be the first to admit that he has looked better than I thought he would look. It’s still early and he could go back to his low completion % high turnover ways, but I think I got this one wrong — the kid looks like a player.

Yeah he had turnovers vs the leagues best pass defense and he still did more with less than the bears generational superstar qb who couldn’t even get 100 yards with a healthy Ol Ang a plethora of pass catching options

And no, you didn’t watch those games

Case in point — that boneheaded INT that ended the game… he threw that into double coverage. That was the type of play he would get away with in college - how do I know? Because I watched him play. Lol. Can’t do that in the big leagues.

I think he has a chance to be a player. As I said, I think he will prove me wrong. I have been surprised at how easy he is playing the game at this level. Once he cleans up his decision making he could be a monster.

As for viewing the games, I went to law school at UNC — not during the time that he was there of course. So I have a special affinity for watching UNC when I am not watching my undergrad team play/which is where my true loyalty lies.

For how bad Waldron was during the Wash, Arizona, and NE games, yardage wise, Caleb is right in line with Nix and Daniels. They have an extra game's worth of stats for their yardage.

That being said, Vikings game will be a tough test. Their D has done well this year and can cause issues for rookies with the different blitz looks.

Seems his biggest issue coming into the league got sorted out before he got to start. He even threw a couple total misfires on his pro day. This QB thing is hard.
It’s just the accuracy and footwork stuff was so overblown. These talking heads hear one thing and get completely caught up in it. Pretty silly. Dude is a serious talent.

I'm a pocket guy so initially had him as high as anyone but I have to admit his misfires scared me off a bit. You are absolutely correct but some guys never lose those odd floaters. LOL, we've seem some with our guy this year. :(

Look at Maye's interceptions - 6. He is tied for the most (with Nix) but Maye has played in 4 less games than Nix. That is one of the main issues I had with him while he was at NC - inaccuracy/leading to turnovers.

The beauty though is he is playing for the right team -- a team that will allow him to make mistakes as he grows. The Bears??? We would have killed all his confidence by now and made him so tight that the thought of throwing the ball past the line of scrimmage would be giving him nightmares. We would have ruined him!

As it stands, I stand by later (corrected) take that the kid looks like he belongs. That is the thing that stands out about him... the ease in which he is playing the game at this level. He has impressed me with his transition.... that is why I corrected my earlier college take and believe he can now become a big time QB. My college take did not see that coming. Kudos also to the Pats who let him play free, support him and let him make those occasional youthful mistakes and INT's. That NEVER would have happened here.

I'm tired of all the bias on this board, but I guess that's to be expected to some degree. So now Maye is "playing for the right team"....the Pats are awful. It's weird that so many here are so quick to denigrate another team's QB, yet Caleb's problems are all circumstantial and have nothing to do with him.

This isn't meant to be a snark, but Caleb has inaccuracy/not leading to turnovers because his throws are so far off from being completed that even the defenders can't make a play on the ball. It's terrible.

AVP confirms the game sealing INT was not on Maye. It went to the right spot and there was a miscommunication. Redemption for QB1. #Gay4Maye

It never was an issue to begin with. At the beginning of the 2024 NFL Draft talk season which started at the end of the 2023 NFL Draft ProFootballFocus put in their early scouting report that Maye had accuracy issues and that became the talking point for all of the NFL Draft experts online.

One opinion became the narrative surrounding Maye and everyone ran with it.

The only thing that could be considered slightly accurate about the statement was Maye pushed the ball to all levels and to the boundaries more often and threw deep more often. So his numbers appeared less than ideal because of his full field usage.

Maye was the best QB in the Draft from beginning to end. But people became enamored Jayden Daniels arm talent and rushing ability and Caleb's inevitability narrative.

His Pro Day report from a 10 year CBS draft analyst.
The blatant miss from a clean pocket, the huge arm, the off-platform throws, those are all trademarks of Maye's game, so it's not as if he demonstrated anything "new" in this final audition for the draft.

If CW looks just OK this game, I'll have the warm and fuzzies.

Don’t forget Ten and Hou. Waldron was awful in those games and none of this is on Caleb!
