Some people put booties on the pooches little paws.
I'm not looking to get a purse dog.

I'm not looking to get a purse dog. Or laughed at by the neighbors.
I would pay good money to see somebody put booties on Rango. I wouldn't try.
Avoid beagles, they're not very good pets unless you're hunting them. A) Not particularly bright. B) Fucking bawl all the god damned time. C) Tend to have severe ligament/tendon issues later in life (around 60% of them require surgery at some point). D) Catch a scent and fucking book. Seriously, I saw one take off and was found 7 miles away at the other end of the lake we were staying on. And my experience isn't based upon one example -- although we're pretty sure my one friend's beagle has down's syndrome or something.
Hey now...beagles are great :yep:
I got a half Beagle and for only 6 months, but so far she's great. She's an idiot but a very cool idiot, gets along with other animals large and small, people large and small. Have yet to see any signs of a temper. Can't speak to old age issues, she just turned 3.
So far, two dew claws up.
The bold is pretty much what I'm hoping for some day.
What kind of dog can jump higher than a building?
Any dog, building can't jump.
**** You
I've wanted a beagle-type dog for a while now, but lately I've been giving it more serious thought. Haven't had a pooch since I was a teenager. The expense of it is all that is holding me back (vet bills...).
I took a quick peek online at some local shelters and all of the dogs were a minimum of $250. Most were more. That's a pretty big chunk of change right off the bat, they did have their shots already though. For any of you dog owners, was the overall expense more or less then expected? I guess what I'm afraid of is the dog that I'm really attached to needing high $ medical work and not being able to afford it.
Is there a SPCA where you live...you can probably find a Beagle that is no where near $250 to get. And depending on your income level, I know the SPCA where I am at offers vet services at a fraction of what it costs at most other vets.
I adopted my first beagle from a friend of an ex-GF...got him when he was 5 years old and he is still going strong at 17 years. I haven't had any issues with him outside of the annual visit which would typically run me about $100-$200. Some of that cost was heartworm meds which you can get at a pretty good price through 1-800-petmeds. I honestly probably didn't need to take him in each year but was nice to have the peace of mind. My other beagle I got as a puppy through a local animal shelter and it cost me $50(?). The first year his vet bills were probably in the $250 range if I remember correctly, but since then he is like the other beagle.
If you get a Beagle I would suggest you have a fenced in back yard and until they get used to the freedom keep an eye on them. I have a fenced in yard and have a doggy door, so my nimrods go in and out as they please. I keep an eye on the perimeter to make sure the young one isn't digging by the fence, but after 3 years he keeps that to a minimum. Also try to keep them entertained while they are puppies, I would throw treats in the yard for him to go scavenging for. That would keep his nose at work and after an hour of playtime and treat searching he was good.
I'm a Beagle guy, will always want a Beagle...they are great dogs.
yup, I had a beagle that lived til he was 13, great dog. Only downside of a beagle is when they howl for an hour straight outside lol.
