I sent in my foid card app and I am caught between deciding on 2 weapons (one is significantly cheaper). ive just had a hankering to shoot shit again. Where can you go around the chicago area to shoot?

Weapon 1:

AR-15 or A3-16 (one with the rail for custom sights) would have no learning curve for me, as an M-16A2 is practically an extension of my own body. These range from $500-$1500 depending on the manufacturer.

Weapon 2 will break the bank(its 2500 bucks), but I want this mother ******:

7.62 yeah buddy.

From what i saw on most retailer sites, these weapons are not barred from sale in Illinois.

Colt 6920, at least that is what I am looking for now. If the shit hits the fan (2012 eek), I don't want the wife and I to be protected by one single handgun.

I thought you were going to say you were buying a handgun. You jumped like 12 levels of gun ownership to be looking at those!

The SCAR is very nice. I am not familiar with them on a field strip level, but I have seen in videos what they can do.

I still like the small size, weight, and overall portability of the 16" M4 carbine.

Are there any companies out there making a quality HK replica?

I don't remember the model #, I think it was HK-90, semi-auto in .308.

Not too much different from the SCAR.

If you plan on shooting the gun a lot look at the price of ammo also. I think the prices between those two guns is pretty similar, but just know that it will add up fast. If you go through 100 rounds you probably just spent $50-100 depending on the quality. Where as .223 ammo will be almost 1/2 the price. Although shooting a .308 is a hell of a lot more fun than something that uses .223

That SCAR has a 16.5" barrell.

I don't remember what the legal length cutoff in IL is. I thought it was 18", but could be 16".

Ah, I remember when 1000 rounds of Wolf 7.62 x 39 was less than $100 shipped.

Blame the military, Ive never fired a hand gun in my life, I can field strip an M-16 with my eyes closed. An Assault Rifle is what I am comfortable with. I've fired an M-4, M-16, M-249, .50 cal, AT4, and sat at the gunner position in a bradley but I havent so much as touched a handgun.

Ehh, I'll take a .22LR rimfire and sight the hell out of it...I could carry triple the ammunition when the zombie apocalypse happens.

Plus, i prefer blades myself.

If I could pick any firearm it would be a H&K MP5SD, but that gun is hella illegal. But if I had that gun, I wanna be an assassin!

for personal defense for non hand guns, AA-12 but I think that is illegal too
