Ehh, I'll take a .22LR rimfire and sight the hell out of it...I could carry triple the ammunition when the zombie apocalypse happens.

Plus, i prefer blades myself.

All hail blades!!!!!!

I love my blades. I would love to be able to carry a hatchet around to be honest. I used to be a good hatchet chucker before i moved to the city. They just don't like people carrying them here. I have no idea why. Back growing up in the country guys would bring axes into the pub...no one thought anything of it. Cities are lame...sometimes a guy just likes having his axe with him. Never know when a lumberjack comp might break out.

I likes knives myself but at the time I don't have any for defense .

My preferred weapon is a9 mm . Also have a 270 rifle and many others.

Best rifle I ever shot was a 458 weatherby. That one kicks ass.

If you plan on shooting the gun a lot look at the price of ammo also. I think the prices between those two guns is pretty similar, but just know that it will add up fast. If you go through 100 rounds you probably just spent $50-100 depending on the quality. Where as .223 ammo will be almost 1/2 the price. Although shooting a .308 is a hell of a lot more fun than something that uses .223

308 is a hell of a lot more accurate and farther as in distance as well.

I have a DPMS AR-15, 308. I love it.

Are you sure that's a good idea? Sometimes you don't use the best judgement, especially when it comes to your anger issues with your brother.

And just because it's one of my favorite movies. "You'll shoot your eye out, kid."

If I could pick any firearm it would be a H&K MP5SD, but that gun is hella illegal. But if I had that gun, I wanna be an assassin!

for personal defense for non hand guns, AA-12 but I think that is illegal too

You mean THIS MP5SD? (They aren't illegal by the way, as long as you have the correct trust and tax stamp)

I sent in my foid card app and I am caught between deciding on 2 weapons (one is significantly cheaper). ive just had a hankering to shoot shit again. Where can you go around the chicago area to shoot?

Weapon 1:

AR-15 or A3-16 (one with the rail for custom sights) would have no learning curve for me, as an M-16A2 is practically an extension of my own body. These range from $500-$1500 depending on the manufacturer.

Weapon 2 will break the bank(its 2500 bucks), but I want this mother ******:

7.62 yeah buddy.

From what i saw on most retailer sites, these weapons are not barred from sale in Illinois.

Bushmaster AR-15, C-More red dot sight, Mako magwell grip, Surefire taclight, Insight light/laser, quad rail, Hogue rubber grip.

As far as the caliber, depends on what you want to shoot with it. Home defense and fun, definitely 5.56 (it slows considerably after hitting drywall and won't injure your neighbors or people in the next room). For outdoor long range, hell yes the 7.62

Also, since Wolf ammo has been mentioned, DON"T use it in any high dollar weapon. It is cheap shit.....shit being the key word. However, you can shoot it through an AK all day long with no issues.

I like my Kimber 45 for home Defense. Or my German Shepherd! As long as you don't know him you'd not come with in 10ft of him.

Jax you ever do any competitions down there?

I was close to buying a Barrett .50 at one point. Brand new it was 9k. Wish I did it as now that sucker is 14k.

Sadly, no, I don't. Once I settle into a "regular" work schedule instead of being on the road all the time I would like to look into 3-gun competitions. I was going to buy the Barrett a few years ago as well, but couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of cash on a weapon that I would rarely shoot.

What's funny is that I shake my head at my brother because he buys hundreds and hundreds of DVD's and video games..........yet I have spent thousands on guns and ammo. To each his/her own I guess. We all need hobbies.

Cause I can? It was nice. I looked at the single shot Armalite 50 cal too but if it wasn't Barrett, no thanks.

My DPMS AR has the stainless competition barrel and with the leupold scope accurrate to a little over 400 yrds depending on the grain.

I really do like the Kimber. It's the Herritage Edition. I also have a Ruger .44 and that's a Monster. What I carry when in Montana by my Dad. Grizz would laugh at the .45 as he ate my fat ass.

There is a really nice NRA range just about 15 minutes from the House in Montana. The old man has been doing a lot of skeet out there with the rest of the old coots. Some of those Shotguns are 15-25k. I have a semi inexpensive Binelli 12 and they all laugh at me. Some of those old guys are f'in good but when all you do is shoot 7 days a week!

After the Super Bowl my stepdad and his one buddy were talking up this place in Palatine. I was giving him some shit because you can rent firearms there like bowling shoes, maybe you can try a model you like out first before deciding to commit long term.
