Dont overthink these preseason games Justin fields is good enough to start. Hes out there with the 2s and 3s I want to see what he looks like when hes throwing to Allen Robinson. Get him used to defenses like the rams and start that learning curve now. Hes not mitch I think hes mentally tough enough to handle whatevers thrown at him

Justin still needs work. Although it is easy to get excited about his talent. I am.

He needs to see more defenses through the course of the season and practice.

If Nagy's offense with Dalton continues to look abysmal into the season you may see Fields sooner.

So far we’re looking like the Glennon offense under Fox. ??

At least that team had an excuse. They didn’t have a single receiving weapon on the roster. Like all time-ish bad.

2 hits. The other one shook him up more.

Point is, do you really want your franchise’s future to take a bunch of unnecessary hits just to have something to cheer for early this year as a fan? It only takes one hit…
He needs to play. Yes he took that first hit, but he also got rid of the ball properly on the second.

No I don't want to see him take it like that, especially helmet to helmet, but this will come up in a real game.

Did you see that hit he took today? I prefer the OL to get a little more seasoning so that isn’t an every week occurrence first…
Jim Miller pointed out that it actually was on fields because the protection was set up so that you as the quarterback should be aware that there will be a guy coming free, but the offshoot is that you're supposed to be able to get rid of the ball quick and have an extra man pressing down field.

It was a mental mistake by fields, but the rookie is going to have those things

An one hit against Dalton could put Fields in anyways.

Why are so many fans such vaginas about Fields. Dude took that hit and popped right back up. He's not a bitch. He's gonna get hurt faster playing behind the scrubs.

Yeah I mean Dalton hasnt shown anything thus far. If we are going to be bad then start Fields.

If the O-Line and Fields instincts are working, sure, let him play. If the QB is going to be killed, play Dalton.

When the season starts will he though? We have yet to see three of the projected starters line up, Daniels, Ifedi, and Peters. Last years line was not very good and they gave up 36 sacks with four of those five starting games for the Bears with one QB who was a statue and the other who panics in the pocket at the first sight of pressure. Those numbers go down with Fields who this pre-season has shown both poise in the pocket and mobility.

What's that old saying the backup quarterback is only one hit away from starting. Dak is the perfect example from last year. It's football you can't play this game afraid a starter will go down.

I’d like to see Fields get the start next week with the 1s to see how he looks. Playing with and against street level players I don’t think does anything for him. Dalton doesn’t need to play again in the preseason to be ready to start week 1. He will be the same regardless.

Fucking THIS!!! Every single QB in the NFL is going to take several hits during the season. People need to stop acting like he can't get hit at all.

All the more reason to be patient with him. He isn’t 100% ready yet.

I think the only thing that is holding him back is recognizing pressure, especially off the RT. I thought he wasn't seeing it against Miami, then he got clocked today. He quickly self corrected though, when they ran a blitz again off RT, he felt it and made a great pass. He learns so fast. If I were the bears coach he would be starting next week with the first team after AD gets his first 3 and out.

Tom Brady, one of the masters of recognizing pressure, behind an OL that had like 3 pro-bowlers, tore his ACL week one after one bad hit.

Anything can happen.

To me, that is what makes me want to start Fields most of all.

Every mistake he makes he learns from and grows from in such a rapid way that we aren't used to that sort of thing.

It makes me want to start immediately so that way he can get all his mistakes out as much as he can as early as he can so that he can quickly course correct and continue to grow.

Once you realize you have a player that's mentally built like that, you have to start them sooner rather than later. That's because you can't ruin those guys but you can stunt their growth since their growth is dictated by making mistakes and then correcting. By preventing them from making mistakes by slowing their progress, you actually inhibit their growth.
