There is no doubt that Carcillo lacks the skill that Saad, Stalberg, and others have on this team. However, takes a lot more than skill and a lot of other factors go into it. I'm not saying he is the most skilled guy...but on this team, with the movable parts (Saad, Carcillo, Frolik probably) I believe Carcillo is the player that compliments Toews/Hossa the best. We saw Carcillo play top 6 with Toews/Kane at times last year and he put up points with them. More importantly though, he opened things up with his forechecking and net presence for those two other guys to player their game at a top level. Saad just does not compliment Hossa/Toews...when you play with those two, they better be scoring 5on5 or you better be scoring...and it just wasn't happening. I love the game Saad plays and I think the emergence of Saad helps out this team in a lot of ways and gives them several options. Have to believe that Q has put Carcillo up on that first line and dropped Saad down for a reason...I believe it comes down to production and complimenting those two players - something that wasn't happening as much as it should with Saad.

Evidently, we're not seeing the same thing. I'm seeing Carcillo getting there late on the rush and generally not keeping up with Hoss & Toews whereas Saad is constantly in the middle of things. Carcillo's 6 shots and one assist in 6 games is not exactly the kind of production Im looking for on the first line. But its not our decision....let's see where Q puts them. One thing is certain, as long as they keep putting up W's...there'll be no ***** from me.

I guess Q said something about Toews and Hossa wanting "more stability" on the top line, so we'll see if that leads to them picking either Carcillo or Saad to skate on the top line and leaving that player there for the entire game.

Obviously, I'm still in the camp that believes that Saad should be that guy over Carcillo. For a visual representation of my argument, I point you in the direction of the goal that Toews scored just 12 seconds into the St. Louis game. While there were 3 or 4 quality passes right before it, the pass that goes from Saad to Toews skate and into the goal is a pass that I don't believe Carcillo has the hands to make.

I'll be happy to agree to disagre as long as the Hawks keep winning.

Saad has 3 points playing with Toews/Hossa (2 other points elsewhere). Production isn't everything (and won't be with Carcillo) but Saad (to me) doesn't do enough elsewhere for those two (where to me Carcillo does).

These are the problems a team loves to have and I'm glad these are the type of discussions that are being had with this season. I've seen arguments (on several other sites) to both sides...so a valid discussion in my eyes.

:yep: If we were a non-competitive team I wouldn't mind trading Stalberg, but when we are on a potential deep playoff run and he's contributing to it (1.6 PS right now), I don't want to make the team any worse... and I'm not confident we have another skater right now that can immediately jump in and produce at the same level or better... and one of this team's strengths is depth, that could be partially diminished just like that.

If the Hawks hang on to Stalberg at the deadline, which results in them winning in the Cup, which also results in Stalberg commanding more money on next year's FA market than the Hawks are willing/able to spend ... that's a risk I'm willing to take. You can't move every single player you have just because their contract is expiring and they could be in line for a big raise.

If you point to that then you have to point to Carcillo's presence in front of the net on the next goal by Toews. Not an assist but worthy of one because of the opportunity it created.

It isn't about protecting. It is about production. I believe that Carcillo gives that first line more production than Saad. If you take Sharp away from Saad then you hurt Kane and that second line.

carcillo gives more production than saad? what!? time to close thread before i lose it.
