Yeah but then you should get a pinch hitter for him in the 9th with 2 men on and 2 outs instead to get a pinch runner for Rizzo

Yeah, I cringed when he was at the plate in that situation.

Jury's still out on whether the signing was good in my opinion, but holy shit his bat sucks hard this year.

So do you think that Heyward is going to continue to be a low .200 hitter? .

I would hope not but I'm seeing no signs of him being any better than a .200 hitter. It's time to bench him and make him a late inning defensive replacement. He's so brutal to watch at the plate.

The .200 BA debate is meaningless. He needs to play like he has over the course of his career. He is well, well below that this season.

If he can bat .265/.350 with gold glove D - that's all he was brought in to do. He's not expected to hit 30 homers.

But still, it's almost August and he can't hit it out of the infield. Doesn't Arrieta have as many homers as him? The guy is 6'5 and has 4 homers.

We can't bench him because of his defense but he should be batting 7th or 8th.

Heyward will turn it around, I'm just no longer sure it will be this year. My theory is that he had been working with Mallee to fix his swing, then the wrist injury happened which threw him off and because he was moving away from what came naturally before the injury he hasn't been able to find his bearings since. It's nearly impossible to retool your swing in season but this guy has all the tools to fix it going forward. In the meantime his defense is stellar and necessary. The guy will finish at 3 WAR without hitting a lick. Short term I've given up on his hitting, long term I think he'll be as advertised.

there are just too many hitches in his swing, its just too busy. Start the hands where they are after all the waving of the arms and begin there.. When I heard they plan to redesign his swing over the winter it surprised me. guy making this kind of money should have his swing down. Just signing a position player last off season was shocking enough.

As Todd Hollandsworth said in post-game #43's hands are out of sinc position and timing wise. Him and the batting coach have been working on it. So it should be any day now that he starts spraying base hits to all fields.:smug2:

he was on the pregame with Kasper yesterday. Does not sound like he really understands his swing. He said he tries to hit thru the ball. Kasper asked if he will then start to elevate the ball again and hit for more power and Heyward said, something along the lines of you only get elevation depending where the pitch moves when it hits the bat. So I guess the only home runs he hits are from rising fastballs.

And since there is actually no such thing as a rising fastball, that explains the lack of HRs

well he hit the ball good today, I guess his home run went out at 103.5 mph. Maybe Mailee heard his interview yesterday.

Attention.....baseball players have bad years. Not exactly headline news as it's been happening for 100 years and it will continue for another 100. It doesn't matter if you're the highest paid player or the lowest.

The question is will he come back to normal next season? Most good players do....time will tell.

I keep thinking he will get hot for an extended period.

MAn, that home run he hit yesterday was just so close to being caught, plus there was probably some fan interference as well. The kind of year he is having, that might have broke him if it got taken away.

I think so too. I can't base it on much except a gut feeling, I don't believe he suddenly sucks at age 27, and things tend average out at least somewhat in baseball.

Woke up this morning to see Jhey hit a 200-foot homer. What a blast! At Wrigley that would have landed in the infield LOL.

I think he'll hit better next season and going forward. But as for this year - I think he's done. He's a .210/.305 guy this season. Sucks for us. But if we win the WS, all will be forgiven.
