I'm finding it funny how all off season everyone was screaming for a 2-guard who can create his own shot & now all the responses are "Well it doesn't matter cuz the 2 & 3 are interchangeable in our system". Wtf? I get how our offense works but that doesn't do anything to diminish the need for another ball handler next to Rose.

I agree with you. Actually, I find that we are on the same page on a lot of Bulls stuff.

But I'm not worried about the odd speculations with who does what just yet. All we can do now is wait, and see what the team actually does.

Again, in the Bulls offense, you don't need to have creating ability to be our SG. Look at who we had, and look at what they did. Put Deng in Bogans's role and he probably does a lot better than Bogans did. It doesn't matter. Call Butler the SG if you prefer.

so what you said about Afflalo doesn't matter?

I find it kinda funny that a lot of people were complaining about lack of scoring from the sg position then praise getting Afflalo. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have him (he's sort of a combo of Korver and Brewer with obviously less skill in both areas) but he can't create his own shot and would pretty be a Bogans upgrade. I'm hoping that we can get him, especially if he wants to come here, but again, not quite "the answer" we're looking for.

so what you said about Afflalo doesn't matter?

Touche good sir. Touche.

I will clarify. We DO need a shot creator. What I really mean in this whole SG/SF debate with Deng is that it doesn't matter if Deng is the SG if we have Butler at SF who can create his own shot and all that stuff. The interchangability comes in when people say "oh well Deng doesn't have the ball handling to be a SG" because again, in the offense, the SG doesn't need to be the one who handles the ball a lot. The aside is that so long as we have a player at SF who can do it instead. And in the case of Butler and Deng, they're really flexible in what position they play so it doesn't really matter which one you want to call the SF and the other the SG.

So regarding Afflalo, my statement still stands. I'd take him, but since he does not provide the shot creating ability that we need, he's not quite the answer we're looking for. If we traded Deng for Iguodala in addition to that, then we'd be fine. I think you get where I'm going now.

We can dream. We can idealize. But the truth is, when it comes to NBA free agency, you have to be opportunistic. We'll take the best that we can get. Afflalo is getting matched by Denver, I want him, but we can't have him. Nick Young is in the same board, and so is Marcus Thornton. :( That leaves us with Jason Richardson and a bunch of scrubs. Or we can go the route of Caron Butler/Josh Howard and we basically rotate our starters at the 2, similar to how Philadelphia and Phoenix have, except Deng is NOT a swingman capable SF.

If you get Butler, you have a guy who can create a shot for you...Deng playing the 2 can do what he routinely does and that is shoot jumpers and slash to the basket. If you keep Deng at the 3, you have to get a guy who can create to play the 2. It doesn't matter because both are perimeter positions, and you need someone, in my opinion, who can create on the perimeter besides Rose.

This is what I feel would happen if they somehow get Butler.

I think in one thread I posted a lineup of

PG: Rose
SG: Deng
SF: Butler
PF: Boozer
C: Noah

That would be tough on a defense to deal with.

I'd enjoy this season even more with CB joining the team. :beerbang:

Doesn't mean it was a bad thing.

It probably went like this:

Bulls: We want to sign you

CB: I want to be here

Bulls: Okay, see you Friday.

CB: Okay, let me go tell these other teams they don't have a shot.
