Saw this earlier. I would really just trade Kosuke so we have SOME money.

Because of all the payroll commitments, we can't do this. But I'd like to trade Kosuke and then bring in another Japanese player, Tsuyoshi Nishioka to play 2B. Trade DeWitt for something of use. Make Barney a backup. Then when Jackson comes up, move Colvin to 1B.

That would give us:
C - Soto
1B - Colvin
2B - Nishioka
SS - Castro
3B - Ramirez
LF - Soriano
CF - Byrd
RF - Jackson

That isn't that bad. But Hendry has said that Ricketts expects the payroll to be lower but for the right move would actually let him spend more. But Nishioka's going to be expensive.

Oops.. that should've been in the Random Trade scenarios thread.

I don't want any part of Dunn, but I'm also skeptical about moving Colvin to first base. The FA pickings for first base aren't worth it until 2011, so I'm not against resigning Nady to a one-year deal and using him as a stop-gap until then.

Sure this years FA class is not that great, however, next years won't be either. Unless you consider Prince and A-Gon as FAs, which they won't be. Next years class, could very possibly be worse than this years.

As for Nady, are you fucking high? Nady provides absolutely nothing positive to this team. Nothing at all. Colvin would be a far better option than Nady, just because he's young. Hell, Hoffpauir would be better than Nady.

If you want to talk about worthless, then Hoffpauir is a good place to start. Nady isn't even an average player, but I'd take him for one year over signing Dunn to multi-year, multi-million dollar deal. My concerns with moving Colvin to 1B are about defense. We're used to Gold Glove-caliber defense year in and year out because of Derrek Lee, and Colvin would likely be a trainwreck if we moved him to first.

You're right, Hoffpauir is worthless. However, he's better than Nady and about 3 million cheaper.

So you would take a player who is going to be worth -1 WAR to 0 WAR at 3 million, over a player who is going to be worth 3 to 4 WAR at 15 million or so? Really?

Your concerns are about an athletic OFers defense at an nonathletic position, not the fact that his bat simply cannot hold up at 1B?

Just to let you know, Pre, Co always thinks he's right and will start an argument with anyone. Even for the most part, he's wrong. So, try your best from going back and fourth with him. I know it will be hard, though.

Waldo, I'm sure you're saying something about me and my Hoffpauir>Nady statement.

Hoffpauir may not put up as good as numbers as Nady, though, I think he would. But let's just say Nady would put up better numbers. How good do you think Nady can get without any power? I'll tell you right now it will not be worth the extra 3 million dollars. Plus, if we were to have Nady at 1B, why would be paying 3 million for him? It's not like we're trying to succeed, might as well just fill that from within for cheaper.

Guess what, Hoffpauir is a member of the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. He's not even in American baseball anymore. So why are we arguing over him?

His bat, and his glove, would be below average @ 1b. No doubt about it. Athleticism has little to do w/ it. The dude's eye-hand coordination has to be top-notch...something most 1B at the MLB level have been working on since they were 8. It's just not that easy, or everyone would be 1B at the end of their career. And as someone said earlier, Going from Lee to Colvin? Dear Lord. We'd have 55+ errors on the season just from some combo of Ramirez, Castro and Colvin.

CO how did you know? Let's see you took me off your ignore lost, look at my posts, and put me back on the ignore list. Na, I don't know. That would be a lot of worthless work.

Assuming we're talking about Nady and Dunn, yes. Nady would just be for a year while we free up payroll to sign someone else or make a trade in 2011. Dunn would be signing ourselves up for three or four years of piss poor play at first base.

The only thing Adam Dunn is good at is hitting home runs. The last thing we need is more defensive ineptitude. Ideally, the Cubs can trade for Adrian Gonzalez and solve this conundrum. But I doubt that will happen.

I really don't think his defense would be that bad. The cause of most of those errors would be because Ramirez is a god awful 3B, even with Lee at 1B, and Castro is still young and raw. If I had to project Colvin, I would put him at about -5 runs. If Adam Dunn can come close to being average with the glove in about a year, so can Colvin.

Look at the numbers, in Nady's worst season (last year), he's still better than Hoffpauir (part from '08).

Also, Nady was coming back from arm surgery. He still played good in limited time, and I would expect a better seaosn.
