Jimmy Butler to the Twolves

I don't think you could ever "win" a trade when you trade a top 10-15 player, or I shouls say it is rare. We also have to be realistic that we can't win anything with Lebron in our conference, so rebuilding now and getting better for the seasons when Lebron is not his current self is the right move. Jimmy was not going to be here for that.

By most non-Chicago fans the guys we have received, have great potential. Will it be realized? No one knows. But I like that we picked a lane, this team has been incredibly boring the past few years. I might actually watch them again.

Pretty incredible that the T-Wolves didn't have to give up any of their starting players in this deal...the only significant piece was their 1st round pick, but they somehow ended up merely 'swapping' 1st round picks instead of giving it up.

I think the deal was terrible for the Bulls, and I think in many ways the organization's problems all revolve around Fred Hoiberg, even though Hoiberg is almost a non-entity. This is probably just me, but the worst aspect of the deal is how its not really a "reset"...its almost a time warp. Dunn is one of the least efficient/worst players in the NBA, the Bulls liked him coming out of college...he is another Cam Payne. Lavine is a young, athletic guard who just had major knee surgery...he is another Derrick Rose. Markannen is a tall Euro who can shoot and can't rebound or play defense...he is another Niko Miritic.

What a trainwreck.

Except Lavine's ceiling is not as good as Rose.

Terrible terrible trade.

Thrilled that the Bulls finally determined that they aren't good enough to compete at the present time. However, in typical Bulls fashion, they waited too long to trade Butler when his value would have been significantly higher a year ago. With Wade and Rondo still around presumably, this next season is just a white flag year. Having said that, until Reinsdorf finally passes and his son takes over or the team is sold, GarPax will continue to screw up this franchise.

On another note, I feel sorry for Butler as Thibs will have him playing 48 mins a game again plus 10 mins of ladder drills afterwards.

The reason why Butler's trainer came out with his tweet was because Butler will no longer be eligible for a super max contract when his deal expires in 2 years with the T'Wolves. $$$$$$$

What a bunch of crybabies. You wanted to rebuild, they traded Jimmy like you wanted, got a lottery pick, one guy you were all advocating for last year and a guy you were advocating for 4 years ago and now you're bellyaching.

Does everybody just not understand THE OTHER TEAM HAS TO THINK IT'S A GOOD TRADE. Thibs didn't want Jimmy so badly that he was going to give up 2 or even 1 future 1st or throw in a coupe more of his players that were lottery picks. The Celtics didn't even want to give up #3 so there was no better offer to play off of. There was no point keeping the 16 pick when the Bulls already have Payne, Valentine, Portis, Zipser, Grant under contract and needing to step up or get out. They need to be on the floor so even a Justin Jackson at 16 would have been fighting for playing time.

The Bulls got something for Jimmy who wasn't going to lead the current roster to the Finals.


On NBATV they acted like Dunn was abust but have we all forgotten that a) Thibs doesn't like young players and hates rookies so what kind of realistic chance did Dunn have last year. b) Wasn't Rubio the starting point guard and a veteran and the guy Thibs kept so hwo much of a chance did Dunn even get?

Lavine is coming off an injury but there were plenty of calls to draft players who had surgery so let's just figure the Bulls' doctors looked at Lavine and thought he would recover.

The Bulls wanted to get more athletic and all three players they got are that, they wanted to get younger and all three players are that, they wanted to get better shooters to stretch the floor and 2 of the new guys do that, they still, I think value defense, Dunn does that.

The 2 big moves coming are buying out Rondo and what to do with Wade, make some kind of trade or buy him out. Then we need to see just how much cap space they have and who of any long term value is available. The small moves are cutting loose Mirotic, Carter-Williams, Canaan, Lauvenier.

Rebuilding is what people wanted, it's here and there's a different way of doing things in rebuilding mode than in making a playoff run and it's not a quick and easy process

Jordan Bell was a beast for Oregon in the tourney. Was excited to see him get drafted. He'll be a great fit in GSW

This move should force the team into a rebuild whether they intended to or not because the team will be even more terrible than it was last year.

The trade seemed ok on the surface until it was revealed we traded the 16th pick as well...seemed like a total unnecessary addition by GarPax much like in the Taj trade. They use the pick to draft Niko 2.0? Could be a harsh assessment, but that's what it seems like. He could be poor man's Dirk, but who the heck knows? His game seems to resemble Niko's so that's what I'm rolling with until I see otherwise.

Lavine I think can still be serviceable, but as we've seen, our luck with athletic players with ACL tears is quite poor. If he recovers to form, it will be after his tenure in Chicago. Dunn is another question mark. He looked really bad in the minutes he got last year. Granted Thibs doesn't really give rookies much room to fail so it could be related to that. I don't see how him and Payne will work out under Hoiberg's coaching though, so again, if he becomes good, it'll be somewhere else.

All that points to a high lotto pick next year...and the year after that...and the year after that. And that's fine to me. It won't be the quick turnaround some people want, but it seems this FO's incompetence may just push the team in the direction it needs to go to improve down the line.
