I have an interview set next Friday at 10:00 and need an excuse to get out of work.

Here's the catch: My boss(s)/Co. owners are psycho. In there eyes there is no acceptable reason to miss work. Even if you call in sick (which I rarely do), they call all day for no good reason but to harass you. No paid vacation days either and I'm strictly on commissions. I take off less time than anyone there and most years only take a long weekend for a "vacation". Very burnt out.
Last week I had to miss three days to drive to N.Y. for my grandmothers wake and funeral on top of everything.

However, we are off at noon on Friday's although I usually work from home anyways. Some weekends too.
My plan is the ask to go in to work Friday afternoon by myself instead, which I know I'll get shit for but I don't know of any other options.
Bottom line, I need an excuse for needed to take the morning off while not being accessible by phone. It's a small office and they know all of my past medical issues (nothing major) so I doubt a doctors excuse would cut it. I'm not a good liar either.

Anyone have a good (serious) suggestion or idea?

Sounds like a terrible place to work. I'm sorry. Tell them to eat shit and die.

Do you have kids? If not, do they know you don't? If the answer to both of those is no than you can make up something about them.

I don't want to lose this job or hear their shit for days in case I don't even get this new job. I just want to make it as smooth as possible.

In case anyone has a serious suggestion, the company is in bad shape financially and we hear about it often.

Sounds like the only option is to call in sick and just put up with their shit. Since you rarely call in sick, hopefully at the end of the day they'll give you the benefit of the doubt even though they're going to give you shit.

Maybe that had you to give a sick kid or parent or grandparent a ride to the hospital and wait for them..

I can't really think of anything good. It's psychotic that they call you when they know you have a valid reason for being gone, it kills every normal excuse. I hope you make good money!

If your work isn't too far from where you need to interview, I would show up to work at 9am and then around 9:15am step out as if to take a phone call. You can come back and say a loved one was in an accident and then rush out before anyone asks any questions. Just have ready the name of the hospital in case anyone is a big enough asshole to ask as you rush out but either way, it limits the amount of questions they can ask you as you leave.

If you try and do shit over the phone or in a situation that isn't one where you have to rush out then that is when an asshole can inundate you with questions.

Just go to the interview. Text them that you can't make it in that day. Turn your phone off. If you get the job, tell them **** you. If you don't get the job, come back for more advice.

Another thought, could you reschedule the interview? It's something you normally want to avoid but in your case it may be worth it.

Jury duty. Can't have a phone there. Then Monday say you were not selected. But do your homework to know where it is in case they ask. But if they ask to see the letter run.

This sounds like a good one, but like you said, what if they ask for the letter? Also, they send you notice weeks in advance, so they may have expected you to notify them long ago.
