I should probably add that since Pace was a pro personnel guy, just about anyone who wrote or talked about Pace said he would probably need to hire a strong college scouting mind to be his director of college scouting. Hiring one of Ozzie Newsome's star pupils who has worked 15 years within the organization I can't think of a better move.

Granted every guy that's a scout works their way up within every organization in much the same way, but this feels different because it's not from the New Orleans tree of friends.

Pace could have stocked his staff with guys from the Saints, which is very much the status quo. But Pace is going after guys he hasn't worked with before to guide his scouting. I'm just particularly keen on the fresh outsider opinion from a top notch scouting organization to be the chief evaluator in charge.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Pace is not afraid to hire people that are his equivalent and / or better from differing Successful Orgs.
I'm really impressed with his direction and lack of "nepotism" also.
He's making it hard not to become dizzy from drinkin the Kool-Aide !

These are the hires you can judge Pace on. The coaching hire was a no brainer, but when your thirty something GM is able to pull the national scout of one of the most respected GMs in the league as his right hand man...you have to be impressed.

Maybe pitching these last hires were how he nailed the interview.

From what I was told, he had a plan for every member of the organization down to the scouts, equipment manager(s), etc.

They were blown away with his preparedness & his overall plan. Was told "He came into this interview, kicked the door down and left them with no real choice as to who should be hired."

Pace looks to be tapping into "winning" organizations...

can't say I'm disappointed in his moves thus far....

let's just hope they pan out....

This just continues to reaffirm my claim that Pace is the best GM in BEARS HISTORY.

#calledit

Let him create his 1st great team before you calledit, ok?

Then he has to create 2 more to be in the same conversation as Finks.

He's a total nerd, bro. What other kind of person gives up almost their entire life for a thankless job watching movies?

Every top notch coach or coordinator is a "football nerd"

Negative.

Marc Trestman looked like he belonged at a Star Trek convention.

Not a football coach.

@MoveTheSticks: Joe Douglas (new director of college scouting for the Bears) is one of the best talent evaluators I've ever been around.

good to hear, Pace knows where is blind spot is 'The Draft' and is going after some young scouts. Bears will probably be drafting high the next few years

Trestman isn't the only nerd in the nfl despbro. Plenty of other nerds that are successful

I am a partial one: just nerds shouldn't be and ARE NOT leading 'men' of NFL football franchises.

Exhibit A: Trestman.

Guy couldn't demand respect from anyone.

Do you think Bill Walsh was an alphamanlybro?

Yes. Just because they are good and dedicated to their job and watching "tape" doesn't make them a nerd.

I mean Trestman lol good god.. Head football coach of the CHICAGO BEARS??

No.

Nerd

Yes, man, I get it. Trestman is a nerd, already established. Just because someone is a nerd doesn't mean they can't be good in a presumably "manly" organization. And, he's not the only nerd in the nfl

Id say manly is a pretty big thing in the NFL, no? You think a dorky kinda guy would demand respect from a buncha meatheads who kick the shit outta eachother on 16 Sunday's out of the year?

I think respect goes a long way in the league.
