People said the same thing about Cliff Lee when his talent emerged. Lester is a good starting pitcher, but he's not worth $155 MM dollars. Your opinion that he's better than the reigning AL Cy Young winner is as good as mine, I guess. But it doesn't make much sense. IMO, Lester peaked two years ago, is clearly near the end of his prime, and probably worth a $125 MM contract in terms of true market value. The Cubs overpayed to get him for obvious reasons. Odds are the Cubs get two good seasons out of Lester before father time catches up with him. The days of sub 3.00 ERAs are probably over. As of right now, Kluber is the better pitcher.

So if someone offered you contracts aside Lester for Kluber, you would say no thanks to Lester?????

In all seriousness let's look at a neutral situation. Salaries are equal and you're looking at one year starting right now and you need a TOR starter. Your choices are Jon Lester and Corey Kluber. A proven track record vs. one star making season. Think of it like this, subtract the names and make your choice only on raw data and remember we're talking about one season. Only a fool selects Kluber. I mean c'mon now.

Now bring in salaries, future projections, etc. you take Kluber all day, every day but that's a different argument isn't it?

I would put Lester as a proven #2 type. For the Cubs he is a ace.
I thought everyone pretty much agreed he'd be the best pitcher on at least 15 teams, possibly 20. Sure he'd be a GREAT #2 behind the best in baseball but he's definitely a true #1. If the Cubs paid that much money for a known #2, fire everybody now.

Glavine was a #2 to Maddux. Smoltz was the #3. So does that mean Glavine was not #1 quality? No but he was at his best as the #2 guy.

My opinion is they need a guy like Max as the ace with Lester as the #2 and Arrieta as the #3. That makes the Cubs a force. Right now they have a rotation that plays well in the season.

That was 10 years ago. So I guess the current answer is no. Being that all of the Sox fans are so obsessed with the Cubs.

JJ can be entertaining some times. This one? Not so much.

Still, JJ's posts are whoa. And there are others like that on this side of the board. Not saying there aren't any on the South Side either.

So much for intelligent conversation on the Cubs board. It's ALMOST a mirror image of the fucking Bears board. And who the hell decided to make Silencio a mod? Dews should man both boards until a smart and informed Cubs fan can be located (good luck w/that).

Not seen you taking any of the Cubs guys to task

They are on the Cubs board. Also, I didnt take anyone to task. Dews made a comment about Cubs fans being dumb and stuff. I retorted with some of the White Sox posters that are currently on this board. I have two right now that are done right Special person.
