Im cool with that as well...but it would be nice to see them take that step...I dont want a fourth round pick or some bum like Clausen. We need to start now...we cant keep passing up on potential good nfl QBs. Draft someone with talent let him develop.

Also i meant games not years sorry about that

In an attempt to actually have discussion instead of this thread, I was impressed by Cody Kessler last night against ND. He may be an option in the second or third that could develop in to a nice QB.

Statements like this highlight the weird disconnect from reality on this board.

During the Martz years Cutler got beat up, yes. But it hasnt been that bad for a long time, and aside from that, cutler is notoriously bad at pocket awareness. Many sacks are a result of holding the ball too long.

So people around here that are still on the cutty excuse train use Martz's poor proctection years as a career long struggle and assume that every other QB around the league has perfect protection.

Case in point- Everyone goes on about how Romo had such a fantastic line last year and that is why he did so well- and they did have a good run blocking line- but pass protection blew ass... he suffered a higher sack percentage than Cutler.

As of this season, there are 6 100+ rating guys that suffer higher sack percentages than cutler, Roethlisberger, Rivers, McCown, Taylor, Brady, and Rodgers... And when you take in to account the fact that all of the above guys are far more savvy in the pocket than Cutler (except possibly taylor, I havent watched much of him) , You realize that not only is their protection worse, it is light years worse than Cutler's protection.

In reality, Cutler takes about an average degree of punishment. I would go so far as to say that if Cutler were to play behind the lines that Romo, Rivers, and Roethlisberger had to play behind, Cutty would be out of the league or in intensive care.

Cutler has had average to good protection for several years, so the protection narrative really needs to stop. And when you consider that he has missed time in 2 of the last 3 seasons for non-contact,lack of conditioning injuries to his lower body, it is really hard to buy the whole "tough guy" narrative.
Most

Per Adam Schefter 2014

QB sacks or hits the past 4 season:

Cam Newton 531
Ryan Fitzpatrick 272
Alex Smith 257
Joe Flacco 254

2013 Flacco 2nd in most sacked in league 48

But only if he had Cutlers protection

Lol if u hung ur hat on career stats including playoffs u would have stopped a long time ago....there is no comparison

It would if I was clueless to how averages work like you. Unfortunately, I know that "career stats" are in fact an average of a players stats throughout his career. And the QB rating is a universal standard for measuring that, because it takes into account things like, INTs, vs the number of times thrown, vs completions, vs yards. I honestly think you don't know how the QB rating works, since you keep bring up the number of games played and number of INTs as a counter to me mentioning QB rating. But what can ya do.

I miss most of the college season, due to work. Goff I heard a ton about, the only game I seen was his 5 int game vs Utes. I dont have an opinion of him based off one game. Anyone worth a damn would be a step in the right direction.

I think even in Cutler's worst years (which I'd say were 2009-2011) Rodgers still got the shit beat out of him more.

I don't really know what Cutler's true difference maker is, cause the offensive line 2013-now (barring injuries) has been great, and he had tons of offensive weapons, and he probably had his worst years under Trestman; his production was equal to McCown's through probably 1/2 or a game more though. Trestman's teams were a clusterfuck, so it was probably a scheme thing there. what really matters is he's playing smarter football, at the expense of the explosive high-risk plays.

shit, I said the M-word.

Someone could get hit one time in a certain way and end up out for a carreer. Hits and sacks dont really tell a whole story.

Some people take hits awkwardly (is that spelled right) I swear everytime i see Cutler get hit i say oh damn, that looked ugly. When another qb it might just look normal. I don't know why that is or if it's even true. It might just be me.

Hating on Cutler purely based on the fact all our other qb's were shit and using that to discredit his accomplishments is just fucking Special person.

fact is the man will walk away from football statisticly the best qb the bears have ever had.

why not try enjoying him instead of searching for any way possible to trash the dude?

or is everyone super excited to get back on the garbage qb train again and watch them shuffle 20 different assholes in and out

You basing ur opinion on Passer Rating is comical..its flawed...just like the shit stat QBR

According to ur tell all stat...I guess Tony Romo is better than Peyton Manning, Steve Young, Tom Brady, Brees and Montana

Hell Im sure 99% of this board would take Chad Pennington over Dan Marino

Cutler better than Aikman too

that's what scares me. he's probably mediocre in the big picture, but I think if they get the defense locked down, he should be just good enough to win games.

Trent fucking Dilfer has a Super Bowl ring.

I remember reading something about Flacco that said he simply never gets injured, Not in HS, college or the NFL.

Thats why stats and ratings are useless when determining the best players imo. The eye test is all that matters to me.

Like him. I think he's the kind of QB who does make your team better just for having him. Simply has nothing around him anymore and their defense has gone to shit.

Its why Cutler is not even on par with guys I mentioned before. Talent wise he is top 2 or 3...actual play between the lines he plays like a 20-25 guy. Also guys I mentioned earlier...Flacco, Eli, Rivers, Luck...all turn the ball over...but yet seem capable of playing multiple games at a elite level..or in playoffs(big time football) sustain play like a Brady or Rodgers.....Cutler not so much...its hard getting a complete game out of him.

And i will use the eye test.

I dont care what his stats are or have been. All i care about is how he plays week to week.

If he throws 1 td and 2 picks in a game where he plays well then so be it. Picks are going to happen, it's Cutty, he will always have some bonehead plays.

I can handle them because, well, it is what it is and i dont see the point in constantly bitching about something thats out of my control.

......in the mean time we're NOT coming close to the SB with jay

I cant understand how some people are not happy with the way Cutler is playing. I dont care if its the system or talent or whatever. I dont care about the stats. All i care about is what i see on the field, which is much improved imo..

u should care about us winning and getting to a SB
