Corrected that RK. While I believe that some of it may or may not be coaching, you have the best core in the NHL, and what has Scooter put around them? You and I know that it was not a salary dump because of the cap, as the media tried to make it out to be, it was making sure this year would be Stan Bowman's team. Foley even said "Make no mistake. This WILL be Stan Bowman's team". And Foley was just relaying what was coming from McFuckface. Well Scooter surrounded that core with who he surrounded it with, and it isn't working. You can't blame it ALL on Q. Some of the blame has to come from the guy bringing in the players.

In my eyes it is mostly Q. Since Torchetti left and we changed video coaches after the cup win our team has CONTINUED TO REPEAT mistakes to the point that they are habits. Our team used to posses the puck for long periods. Now, with the first sign of pressure we throw the puck away. It's not like were EVER all that good defensively, but when being coached to posses the puck rather than throw it away our lack of physical defense did not get exposed.

Sure Q has lost Buff, Versteeg (who has more points than anyone on our team right now), Campbell, Ladd, etc, but his constant screwing with the lines and his not correcting mistakes that have become habits IS coaching IMO. Take a look at some of the crap plays made over the last 12 months by our best players and you have to call it coaching. I am losing patience with Q.

That ran through my mind yesterday, that the GM we have might just suck, we should have never canned Dale. Look what he did in Florida in two fucking seasons. They went from laughing stock to team that (last I checked) sits first in the SE division. Tallon knows what he is doing, Scooter I think is getting by on his last name.

At no point this season have I felt like a top 5 team in the conference. We feel like cellar dwellers.

Stop using logic Pez, dammit don't you know logic has no place in Q's head

But I believe we are a top team in the Conference and when they get to the playoffs it will show. Unlike the team in Florida. Unfortunately the motivation right now is lacking. The coming prepaired every game to lay it on the line. Drive, Motivation, Desire, Passion...... The NHL is so competative. Even the worst team can score and win on any given night.

If your team does not come prepaired, they can lose, and sometimes bad.

That's coaching.

I have no fear very few teams in the NHL can take this exact Hawk team in a series of 7 games. That said I would like to see more of the above on a nightly basis during the REGULAR season. No doubt the players mind set changes come playoff time. It shouldn't be any different to now though.

There's no denying the kids have magic together... can't wait to see it in action for a whole game! I'm headed to St. Louis for the Saturday game, have a good feeling about the JT-PK reunion.

management and coaching isn't working? WE'RE IN THE TOP FUCKING FIVE OF THE CONFERENCE ARENT WE?

for fucks sakes....

piss, moan, *****

i like the new lines.

Not really. Teams behind us have a lot of games in hand on us. And we are NOT playing like we can, and we should not be even close to satisfied. Aaah what the heck, maybe we can make a mad dash at the end, shortening the bench and tiring the key players and hope for someone will lose on the last day of the season to get us in the playoffs. I guess that is our plan.

I used to come to 8-10 games a year and watched the rest on TV back when we'd throw Arnason-Bell-Calder out as our best line, Steve Poapst was a top 4 d-man and Adam Munro was our starting goalie. I understood why THAT team was making mistakes!

Why is it when the team shows drive, motivation, passion - it must be because of Toews' leadership ...but when it lacks - its the coaches fault?

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I think it's time for Scooter to make a move - shake them up a bit. As much as I am in a believer in not making a move in a panic state, I do think that there are needs - 1 dman and possibly a forward.

I've been a supporter of his...but some of the role players need to improve. Losing Brouwer and keeping Frolik at the same salary...doesn't look to good. Not sure why they got Leipisto if they're not going to play him. They have the cap room, prospects to move....something is needed.

I don't think that will help the root of the issue. Even if we get lucky and trade a couple pieces of trash for one decent player, chances are instead of 15-19 guys mailing it in, you'll have 14-18.

Don't get me wrong, if we can make a move to improve the team without creating another hole then by all means go for it, but I really don't think one magical player is going to change the schizophrenic nature of the team--especially since we know the roster as-is now is fully capable of winning convincingly...when they show up.

Did I mention Toews in there? I've been pretty consistent on this.

No, not you specifically.....but I do read a lot of posts where "Toews must have said something in the locker room to get the team going" whenever the team plays better, but when they play lethargic - Q doesn't motivate them enough

Not advocating that the flip flopping is warranted, but in my mind it is the coaches job to motivate. If they are lethargic that is 100% on Q if he was not able to properly prepare his team to play.

Toews has a huge impact in that locker room but I wouldn't say every ounce of effort is because of him, I don't think anyone truly believes that. That said, it's pretty well known that he step up from time to time to motivate the team.

Has nothing to do with Q's motivating, and everything to do with his lack of coaching. Or, over-coaching, in the case of the incessant line juggling. This team keeps repeating the same mistakes, over and over. I can't understand why the forecheck was so aggressive when they won the cup, and is now non-existent. The PK is also extremely passive and terrible. Power play seems scripted, and if the backdoor play to Sharp isn't there, they create nothing. Guys are more concerned with not being out of position than forechecking, finishing hits, and causing turnovers. The team is playing timid, offensively, as well as defensively. I remember when they used to push the pace, and be killer in transition. I remember a team that dominated puck possession and had swagger with the puck. Now it just seems like they're all afraid to **** up, and as a result, **** up even more. What has Q ever done to earn the constant praise he receives? Has he EVER had a below average team that overachieved? Because all I remember is stacked teams that performed at or below expectations.

At the pofessional level, it's the players responsibility to motivate themselves. Motivation/leadership are two different things, IMO.

A lethargic performance has more to do with the players. A coach can prepare the same way game in/game out and its up to the players to execute. The captain on any team is usually the "go between" the coach and his team if there are issues - but the locker room usually belongs to the players at that level. The coach may come in and voice displeasure with execution/game plans...but he won't get into players faces to try to "motivate" him to try harder/play better.

I don't buy the "its JT's job to motivate crap". It's Q's job to motivate. It's Q's job to make sure they play each game like the last. Some of his goofie decisions have me wondering.

Take last game for example. Odonnell in, Lepisto in the P Box. Really? Bickell in, Smith in the P Box. Really? Why is Smith here again, and what is Bickell doing to earn ice time?

Then the first goal. Q is so worried about getting the "best" line change against Tippette he does it right as the Coyotes are bringing the puck into the Zone. Slam goal #1 of the game. While it was a "soft goal" on Crawfords part it never happens if he doesn't change the line, he just sent out seconds before.

Then there is the motivation. These guys are Motivated one game, like I suspect they will be tonight, then not another. Coaching 100%.

Desire, Passion, Determination, Pride... Each game. So far this year we are having a hard time seeing that. Line meddeling? Could be. Lack of motivation? Could be.

All Coaching. The Onus is on the players to an extent, BUT, those areas I mentioned are also 100% on the Coaching decisions.

I agree and disagree. I agree with the second sentence 100% as you can read above.

I think the lethargic performance is more to do with the "system" Q is preaching to these guys. "Stay in your lanes, active sticks, don't get out of position." Guys aren't just going out and playing their game. Look at all the players that were physical last season, that came here and are a shell of themselves. Carcillo started out a beast, and now he's fallen right into line with the rest of guys on this team that are afraid to be out of position making a hit. Montador? OD? Hammer? Seabrook? All these guys are less physical than they were in previous seasons. Even Hossa, Sharp, and Bolland are hitting far less.

And that's bullshit that coaching doesn't affect the motivation. Look at the difference in Pittsburgh since Bylsma took over. How about the difference in St. Louis? A properly coached team has confidence and swagger when they take the ice. This team doesn't have it.

I remember that too, remember we used to get at least 3 a night pretty god damn regularly and you never felt the hawks were "out of it" there was always hope we'd go off and score a bunch to win (a la the flames game) Now we go down by two and I know the game is fucking over.

I miss that brand of Blackhawk hockey, that was entertaining, I couldn't wait for puck drop, I used to get so fucking pumped up for those games, especially against the nucks because you knew it was going to be intense. Now I go "Oh look the hawks are on, means I can't play xbox..."

The players are human and if they are sick of their boss's bullshit they won't give it their all. And I think the team is sick of Q's bullshit

The explosiveness and edge they had is gone. Why that happened, I don't know. This team really is fucking BORING to watch the last two seasons. There are obviously exceptions, but it seems like Q is coaching them WAY too conservatively, and they're all afraid to make mistakes.

So I'm not the only one that feels that way, thank god.
