Wondering if cubs has the bigger offer but he torn between playing in California or taking the money with joe maddon
I can't imagine the Cubs being the bigger offer. Shields makes sense to them as a bargain and a chance to buy some time for guys like Edwards and Johnson or to find some young pitching (think Noah Syndergaard or Sonny Gray) in a trade. It would also allow them to not get into the big money extravaganza next year where guys like Price, Zimmermann and Samardzija will get 7 year deals in the $180-$230 million. If they have to be high bid on him I would expect them to back off. If they don't get him they'll go back to their original pans and wait for other opportunities.
