Are you only fishing off your kayak or do you have a boat also? I'm mostly fishing inshore for tripletail right now and the occasional offshore trip.
I just have my yak. So it's either that, or shore / pier fishing for me. I'm gonna get a boat though soonish. Otherwise I gotta wait for a buddy to do anything off a real boat. But for the species mentioned, plenty of stuff around off the kayak near me.

I also do some freshwater stuff because of convenience (e.g. bass). Takes me like 30 min to get to brackish / salt from where I live. That's definitely my preference though.

I had a kayak and beach fished for a decade down here so i don't really feel like you have to have a boat. It's nice to be able to do different things but isn't necessary to catch a fuckload of fish and have a great time on the water. Tripletail hang around the crab buoys in 15-40 ft and are excellent to eat so that's what I've been doing lately. I think they are typically bigger on your coast so if you have a chance to go for them I recommend it.
