I think Garza improves the team by 3 wins....4 at the absolute max...but I think that's more wins than any of those prospects would improve the team over a 3 year span.

I'm still big on the Garza trade

Silva is the odd man out. He had an average ERA of 5.86 over the last 4 years, Garza has an ERA of 3.82 in the same time frame. The Cubs were 22-32 in one run games last season.

it's easy to say and probably true that it doesn't make the difference between the Cubs making it to the World Series and not making it to the World Series. And this just may be my optimistic view on things but we're already a better team thanks to the other changes such as the bullpen, Pena's power, Zamrbrano's strong finish, and the team's improved finish under Quade. Now we're gonna win a few more of those one run games as well.

So take all of that, include the extra wins from Garza, and that could be the difference between being a playoff team or being on the outside looking in. And anything can happen once you're in.

Difference between 3rd and 5th maybe, still likely not a playoff team.

I like the changes, but Wood is my favorite move. I just don't like how much they gave up to get him.

Its not nearly that many greater than signs.

Silva career FIP is 4.49. Garza's is 4.26. So that's .23 runs per nine innings.

So over 200 IP that's just over five runs or half a win.

Garza does not make or keep this team from the WS.

Trading for Garza was nothing more a desperate attempt to plead to the dumb fans who don't understand that Garza is leaving the Trop and going to Wrigley.

Archer, Lee, and Guyer could/should have been used for an actual weakness. Uggla or Johnson would have made this team much better than Garza did.

Sure the cubs made moves to please the idiot avg fans, I agree with that.

i will take 3 > off of my post for ya.

stop basing everything off of FIP.

Anyone who thinks silva and garza are comprable are just plain insane.

What is better than FIP then?

I agree, but to just look at it from the surface, FIP is the best.

Personally, I tend to look at K/9 and K/BB a lot. Tells me if they can get out of jams. Only as a side-stat though, not as a main-focus stat. But then again, some pitchers aren't strikeout pitchers, so it doesn't matter much in all cases.

xFIP is okay too, but it is pretty much FIP anyway.

Ground Balls/Fly Balls, etc.

I look at everything I can find I guess.

You are right they may not turn into anything.

The point is we don't need Garza we have six good pitchers and we only really need four.

I agree with this statement.

Given the team Garza is, was, and always will be unneeded. Not to say he doesn't make us better be just doesn't make us much better.

Garza and Silva/Cashner is not that much better than Silva and Cashner. Probably one win. Two at the most n

I do not agree with this.

A bottom 3 of Garza, Wells and Cashner is much better then Wells, Silva and Cashner.

But the difference doesn't make up for the amount the Cubs paid for Garza. If it was Greinke, and the Cubs got their legit #1 I would be fine with it. But getting a #2-3 for that price has never made sense to me.

Couldn't agree more.
