Kyle was sent to the cubs as another piece in the Dempster trade. Went 4-1 with a 1.95 ERA in May.

On the season he is 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA. Is he over looked or is his ceiling just not that high? Who knows but its nice to see a pitcher have some success with the Cubs

I read somewhere that he wasn't a throw in but was in fact the main piece. I loved the deal when it happened and still do. He should see a bump in the minors soon.

It's not much to get excited about right now. If he can keep these types of numbers while moving up the ranks then sure.

Hendricks main concerns are that he is not a flame-throwing pitcher and doesn't have a strikeout pitch (averages about 7 K/9 IP). His FB is around 90-92, but his offspeed stuff is above average. He isn't going to be a #1 or #2, but he could be a good #3. Here are 3 different takes on Hendricks:

Intelligent pitcher that doesn't overpower hitters and has control over his entire arsenal. Does that sound like any pitchers Cub fans know?

Safe to assume you're not speaking of Kevin Tapani?

90-92 mph on the fastball I think is more what he tops out. Most of what I've read suggests that he sits in the high 80s. The K rate holding over 7 per 9 as he goes through AA is encouraging, but his margin for error is super small given the stuff.

I don't think Tap is a good comp since he threw harder at this age and his split was more of an out pitch than anything Hendricks throws.

What does that say if KB is talking without a brain and Chris J is talking while he has one?

Success in Tennessee means nothing.

Start talking when he has success in Chicago.

It means more than nothing, any time a prospect improves considerably at all the odds that they contribute at the major league level increase, that is a good thing to have. Sure it is just a chance, but it would only mean nothing if that chance was 0.

Until he contributes at the major league level, that chance might as well be 0.

Sorry that is so hard for many of you to grasp.

You're in a thread about a prospect pitcher, and write this... why do you even come in the thread if that's all the insight you're gonna give?

I'm sorry Will, I'm trying not to believe you're describing Randy Wells.

Kyle Hendricks - Dartmouth
Randy Wells - Southwestern Illinois College

Also, Randy Wells was a converted Catcher. Nice try though.
