Shannon Sharpe?
Lil DB70 here, think you're sniffing too many motorcycle fumes.

Edit: my bad, i thought you were implying those were bad late round picks. Keep on sniffing, brother.

What Bears can gain by waiting or by trading for a running back

Crowded NFL backfields

Miami: What are they doing with Alexander Mattison on the roster when they also have Jaylen Wright, drafted Ollie Gordon II and have Nate Noel behind De'Von Achane? Someone is going and Mattison seems like a good candidate.

New England: After denying the Bears to draft TreVeyon Henderson, they also have Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson and Trayveon Williams,as well as Lan Larison and Terrell Jennings.

N.Y. Jets: Behind Breece Hall, they have Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, Kene Nwangwu, undrafted Donovan Edwards and Zach Evans.

Cleveland: Even after letting Nick Chubb leave, they have Jerome Ford, Pierre Strong, Ahmani Marshall and drafted Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson.

Houston: Dameon Pierce would seem to be available after they signed Nick Chubb as a backup to Joe Mixon and have potentially explosive draft pick Woody Marks as a change-of-pace back and former 49ers back J.J. Taylor along with two others.

Green Bay: They sure do like former 49ers backs as they have Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks behind Josh Jacobs and MarShawn Lloyd, and two other backs on the roster, as well.

Atlanta: There is much speculation Tyler Allgeier could e dealt but it's based solely on his contract expiring after this year and not a crowded backfield situation.

New Orleans: They signed Cam Akers to a roster that already had Kendre Miller, Devin Neal and Clyde Edwards-Helaire backing up Alvin Kamara.

L.A. Rams: They drafted Jarquez Hunter in Round 4 and already have Blake Corum backing up Kyren Williams.

San Francisco: They're always a place teams raid for running backs. Former Packer Patrick Taylor, Corey Kiner and Israel Abanikanda are ehind the first three 49ers backs, Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo and draft pick James Jordan.

Seattle: The reason Kenneth Walker is thought of as a possible trade piece is they have Zach Charbonnet, Kenny McIntosh, drafted Damien Martinez and Walker is in the last year of his contract.

Mattison is trash.
Gibson sucks and fumbles. Stevenson also has ball security issues. Williams is meh.
The Jets available backs are not upgrades.
Browns don’t have much to offer either.
Dameon Pierce is slowly fading into oblivion and isn’t good.
Pass on all of the Packers forgettable backs.
Allegier is solid but Atlanta isn’t moving him.
The Saints backs are not an upgrade to any of the Bears backs either. Kamara has a heft price tag so it wouldn’t be wise to add a declining back.
Blake Corum sucked last year.
Niners backs won’t look good in a different system.
Walker would be a good addition for a late round pick.

Brother Washington here, brother.

Let's not forget the likes of Richard Dent who was an 8th round pick. Some GMs actually find some gems outside of the 1st and 2nd round and others, not so much.
Or Jay Hilgenberg (4x All Pro and7x Pro Bowler) undrafted through 12 rounds.

He may not be 'special' but he's very well suited for his intended purpose. They're only pawns in game of BJ ball.

I love this guy from Rutgers. He would be a late round steal. Looks alot like Montgomery with his vision, balance, and tackle breading ability
pass pro is a major strength which should make Roshon benchable

Ignoring that any HoF found that late is the exception, not the rule, I think people also forget that back then there were also fewer teams and no compensatory picks back then. So, later round picks would be the equivalent a round or two higher in modern drafts.

For example, Dent was overall pick #203 in 1983 and yes, that was early in the 8th round. In 2025, the overall pick #203 was middle to end of the 6th round.

The 1983 draft was just a hell of a year for the Bears in general. They also drafted HOF OT Jimbo Covert at #6 overall that year. I am not sure how many teams can say they drafted 2 HOF players in the same draft.
I believe it was 7 starters in the Super Bowl winning team in that draft.

Allgeier is in the last year of his rookie contract, might want something for him by the trade deadline.

Bears did that one other time. At the very least. So 2 times. And please tell me you can recall that other time.

Easy one 1965, Butkus/Sayers. Now can you name the third #1 pick the Bears made that year.

Honestly, had to look it up. He wasn't as good as the other two... heh.

I got curious and looked to see if there were any other Bears drafts that had 2 HOF players.

And it turns out there is: 1936 with Joe Stydahar (1st rnd, #6 overall) and Danny Fortmann (9th rnd, #78 overall), both were offensive lineman.

Steve DeLong, chose to go to AFL Chargers where he made All AFL team in 1969, his best year as a pro. Not nearly as good as Butkus/Sayers.
