He’s got similar measurable to James Robinson. I think he can be pretty good. Robinson had a few decent years in Jacksonville. I think Monangai can be pretty decent as a back up.

Nobody expect for him outrun everybody for 50 yards, but he will get you tough yards in the traffic. Those are just as important.
He will?

How about we wait and see.

There's absolutely no guarantees with a seventh round pick. I want to see that he looks like he's capable of making the roster first.

He is too slow.
How many runs over 10 yards do RBs have because he's faster to 10 than Swift or other top backs in this draft. After that 1st 10 yards, you're either fast enough to not get caught by a DB unless they have the angle or you get caught like everybody else. Monty had a similar attribute of fast at the line but lower top speed and he did fine with Johnson.

Monty is a little better laterally but Kyle is more sudden when he's found a lane and VG at finding it.

This. All Johnson needs is a back/s who can get big chunk plays. Speed is nice but chunks are more effective for his offense.

Bears need complimentary running backs that can get yards after first contact. Swift seems to go down by just sticking out an arm. Yes he does the heroic leaps but he goes down easily.

Monangai's yards after contact performance includes:
  • In 2023, 69.7% of his 1,263 rushing yards came after contact, according to ProFootballFocus.
  • He forced 73 missed tackles in 2023, ranking eighth nationally and first in the Big Ten among running backs.
  • His average yards after contact per carry in 2023 was 3.6, according to PFF.
  • Over the past three seasons (2022-2024), Monangai averaged 3.9 yards after contact per carry, the sixth-best rate among 2025 draft-eligible Power Five running backs.
  • His career average is 3.32 yards after contact.
  • He has forced a total of 178 missed tackles in his college career.
It is important to note that Monangai's ability to create yards after contact was particularly notable in 2023, considering Rutgers' passing offense was not strong, which could have led to defenses crowding the box and making it harder for Monangai to find running lanes. Head coach Greg Schiano acknowledged this, stating that Monangai "ran into disadvantaged boxes several times and still found a way to make yardage."
Overall, Monangai's performance suggests he possesses good contact balance and tackle-breaking ability, allowing him to gain extra yards even when met by defenders. He is described as a "physical, tough runner" with good contact balance.

Thanks for posting this. Monangai seems to be just the type of time share running back Johnson needs in his offense.

I don't understand that comment. You don't think Johnson loved how Gibbs could take it to the house on almost any play? Johnson loves big plays and those come from speed.

I enjoy her work but Kylie Minogue would be a terrible choice for football. One hit and she'd be severely hurt. I really don't understand America's obsession with celebrities being placed into jobs they have no business being in.
