One thing Kyle Shanahan has shown is essentially zero tolerance for bullshit quarterback play. Trey Lance only had 102 career pass attempts for the Niners when they threw in the towel on him.

Bears fans are simply not ready for a guy like Shanahan. In this way George does understand his customer base, Bears fans want to give these quarterbacks a three year leash minimum every time. Shanahan would’ve benched Caleb Williams hard after that New England game, probably never to be seen in a Bears uniform again.

They threw in the towel because he had a season ending injury in like week 2. It had nothing to do with his poor play. If he never got hurt he would have played all of the season.

Shanny has played plenty of terrible qb's for extended periods, see jimmy g. He just gets the most out of the talent at the QB position.

Purdy isnt very good.

Any nfl QB would look good with 7 all pros on the offense in a shanahan system
That’s why development is important. Putting a good game plan behind a really good O-line matters.

This is why the Bears are a horseshit operation. Protect the QB is priority #1. Not getting weapons right away. Build the lines man

Yea, no clue why the 9ers would fire him.

Its not his fault the GM paid a buncha old hurt guys

Maybe if they have a mediocre/bad year again in 2025 they axe him, but not sure how them being bleh for one season costs him his job.
Actually it is his fault. Shanny hired Lynch not the other way around and he has to approve every move Lynch makes. Lynch already confirmed this is the arrangement years ago.

They watched him practice plenty to know what they had, they just had no tolerance for it. They got rid of Jimmy Garoppolo too, who by the way despite being not great is still vastly better than Caleb Williams.

Kyle Shanahan wouldn’t endure much more than a quarter or two of Caleb’s inaccuracy, holding the ball too long and nonsense audibles before giving his little death stare of pure rage on the sideline then benching Williams and burying him deep on the depth chart. It’s just the way he is. It wouldn’t go over well in Chicago.

Or Caleb would actually flourish in Shanny's O and all the WRs he schemes open so it wouodnt be an issue.

I would give the 49ers our 2025 1st round pick to secure him as HC in 5 seconds. I highly doubt he gets fired, if anything they will trade him.

Edit: if this is a top 10 pick they are going to have to take 2026.

I wouldn’t use the word “fault” here. The Niners have had a run of competitive football that is the envy of all but one or two teams in the league. And now that they are back in a mindset of accumulating talent they’ve already done more to rebuild in one draft than the Bears have in three years under Ryan Poles.

Well yeah this is the Bears fan fantasy. The reality would be much different. If I can see how much of a fraud Caleb Williams’ predraft “generational talent” was then I’m sure Kyle Shanahan can too.

Not the point. The point is he is responsible for all the old injured players @msadows is blaming on Lynch as Shanny hired Lynch and has to signoff on his moves.

Sorry sir but you are no Kyle Shanahan and dont really know what he thinks of Caleb. What makes you argument even funnier as Shanny wasted 3 firsts on Trey Lance. Cool story though.

Right, and he had the courage to admit he was wrong, bench then trade Trey Lance and start Mr. Irrelevant instead who has been an absolutely good and viable starting quarterback. Niners have been to three straight NFC Championship Games since they lost the Trey Lance trade. So I don’t think they are sweating it too much.

This would just never happen in Bearsland. There’s no accountability here. And that’s why Bears fans couldn’t handle Shanahan. They don’t want somebody who doesn’t give a ****, and nor do the McCaskey’s. They want somebody who will stick with the higher drafted guy and Develop The Quarterback even if it means flushing entire seasons down the toilet and that just isn’t in these good coaches’ DNA.

The results are stark & obvious. The Bears wallow, the Niners play deep into the playoffs every year.

How does Mr. Irrelevant look now when he lacks weapons and a O-line? 5-5. 49ers will become like the Cowpokes if they give Purdy a big contract like Dak. Without CMC, Aiyuk, and good O-line, the 49ers look pedestrian. Their D doesn't look dominant as well.

Again missing the point. Your claim was he would see Caleb is not good and my point is he clearly didnt seee that Lance was no good when he spent 3 firsts on him. So no it isnt a given his evaluation of Caleb would be consistent with yours.

I don’t think the 49ers give even the slightest shit about winning off seasons or whatever other cope BS that drives so much fan enthusiasm here in Chicago. You want to dunk on them wasting three first on Trey Lance? OK fine, how about the Bears wasting three seasons? I know which I’d rather give up.

It's like they have a head coach and a system that will allow them to continue winning even if their first round QB busts. What a novel concept. We should try that.

Again not the point. You dont know Shanny's opinion of Caleb. That is all.

I know that if Kyle Shanahan didn’t think Caleb Williams gave him the best chance to win of his available quarterback options in any given week then he would bench him. And I also know that sort of commitment to winning football games over making people feel good about the quarterback does not fly in Chicago. Fans and ownership here would rather lose.
