I read about this Rockstar game in an issue of Game Informer from a few months ago, and it looked spectacular. Generally speaking, it's an adventure game set in 1940's LA after WWII, where you play a police officer (start out walking a beat, culminate as a homicide detective) tasked with solving crimes. The visuals looked stunning, as the studio behind the game, Team Bondi, are using a new facial-capture system that little to no digital animation, the characters and their face, wardrobe, expressions and dialogue are all captured and rendered digitally at the same time, making for in-game player models that are almost indistinguishable from live-action video.
Not a lot has come out about the game from Rockstar, and really most of the info about the game came from that single GI spread, and Rockstar has been tight-lipped about it ever since (nothing about it at E3 that I saw), including the release date. Earlier in the summer, Rockstar did confirm/hint that the game was slated for a "fall" 2010 release, but recent reports from Xbox Magazine (I think it was them) have the game delayed until early-2011 because of games like Mafia II and Fallout: New Vegas being dropped in such close proximity.
After hearing this, I was a little miffed, because an interview with a Rockstar higher-up in last month's GI implied that the game was already in the Quality Assessment phase, meaning that the game was close to going Gold. If that is the case, the only reason to delay the game would be to avoid looking too-much like a Mafia II clone along with having cramped sales because of New Vegas, Mafia II and Halo: Reach dropping so soon. All of which I understand completely from the business side of selling a product, but it still irks me a bit, mainly because LA Noire was one of the very few upcoming games I was going to scrounge up enough cash to buy this year.
All that being said, apparently Rockstar came out after the "delayed" labels surfaced about Noire, saying "we don't comment on rumor and speculation". Which....what does that mean? All the circumstantial evidence is there for the "delayed" accusations to be true, but Rockstar coming out and kinda dispelling them is a little puzzling.
Anyone know more/pumped about the game?
