I read about this Rockstar game in an issue of Game Informer from a few months ago, and it looked spectacular. Generally speaking, it's an adventure game set in 1940's LA after WWII, where you play a police officer (start out walking a beat, culminate as a homicide detective) tasked with solving crimes. The visuals looked stunning, as the studio behind the game, Team Bondi, are using a new facial-capture system that little to no digital animation, the characters and their face, wardrobe, expressions and dialogue are all captured and rendered digitally at the same time, making for in-game player models that are almost indistinguishable from live-action video.

Not a lot has come out about the game from Rockstar, and really most of the info about the game came from that single GI spread, and Rockstar has been tight-lipped about it ever since (nothing about it at E3 that I saw), including the release date. Earlier in the summer, Rockstar did confirm/hint that the game was slated for a "fall" 2010 release, but recent reports from Xbox Magazine (I think it was them) have the game delayed until early-2011 because of games like Mafia II and Fallout: New Vegas being dropped in such close proximity.

After hearing this, I was a little miffed, because an interview with a Rockstar higher-up in last month's GI implied that the game was already in the Quality Assessment phase, meaning that the game was close to going Gold. If that is the case, the only reason to delay the game would be to avoid looking too-much like a Mafia II clone along with having cramped sales because of New Vegas, Mafia II and Halo: Reach dropping so soon. All of which I understand completely from the business side of selling a product, but it still irks me a bit, mainly because LA Noire was one of the very few upcoming games I was going to scrounge up enough cash to buy this year.

All that being said, apparently Rockstar came out after the "delayed" labels surfaced about Noire, saying "we don't comment on rumor and speculation". Which....what does that mean? All the circumstantial evidence is there for the "delayed" accusations to be true, but Rockstar coming out and kinda dispelling them is a little puzzling.

Anyone know more/pumped about the game?

Yeah, and apparently they've done a fantastic job of re-creating 1940's LA, and the investigation/interrogation stuff looks phenomenal. No more necessary items glowing on top of tables and other obvious places, you have to actually look for evidence and whatnot. Really good stuff.

So next week it looks like we should know a lot more about LA Noire and other Take-Two/Rockstar titles (including Max Payne 3) when Take-Two re-ups their release schedule. Since we have heard virtually nothing about Noire outside of those few magazine pieces, it looks like it will be delayed, though I'm still holding out hope that Rockstar is just priming everyone for a surprise release date, improbable as that may be.

did you read about that? Thats amazing, it makes the game much better. You actually have get more involved in the game instead of just going through the motions.

This is a game I would probably get on its release day. I rarely buy a game on a release day but this may be the one.

The setting of the 40's looks so bad ass.

Have you played red dead redemption?

Everything about Noire looks groundbreaking and fresh, even with Mafia II already out and set in the same timespan. The good-cop detective angle hasn't been done very much, and certainly hasn't been done in an open world with a myriad of different cases, the Noire theme looks to be fantastic (hasn't really been done wince Max Payne), and the soundtrack is apparently top-notch. I'm really pumped.

And yes, I did play Red Dead, but I don't own it.

Playing a good cop detective makes this game more unique and more interesting to play. I asked if you played RDR because im curious if it is going to be setup similar to that game with the huge territory to cover, to me not being a fan of the wild west, the territory and landscape really brought me into the game, I hope that LA will do the same.

I love True Crime Shows, This game sounds like it's for me.

It would bee good if they could create Cold Cases where you reopen a case after years and you have to try and solve them. Though i don't think the game is that big.
