Adam Dunn is a very good player, and contributes tremendous value to his teams every season. That being said, with the probability of keeping Dunn on this team for awhile being what it is (not good), the current makeup of the rotation and farm system and what the Sox would have to give up to get Dunn just to not re-sign him (even though they would get two first-rounders), I don't think pursuing him right now is a good idea. Also, given his age and the contract he can command (probably one that would take him into his mid-30's or later), I don't think it would be a good move from a baseball standpoint, even though I would love to have Dunn in a Sox uniform for even just a little while.

Dunn is a player much like Jim Thome, one who derives most of his value (and indeed, most of his value throughout his career) from "old player's skills", and while he may be a perfect analogue to Thome, we have to be realistic and understand that Thome is an aberration in the data set, as players that get most of their value from those "old player's skills" don't tend to age very well.

If we were to have had this discussion when Dunn was a free agent two seasons ago (another KW gem), I'd be all for it. But, as it stands now, I don't think it would be a good move.

geez after all that and then you decide to speak English...ok so then Dunn isn't someone you want right? If so, then that's all I'm saying but in a different language!

Oh I want Dunn, but that's because I really like him as a ballplayer, I just don't think it would be a good move for the team both now and going forward.

Well, usually, teams that are really good during the regular season and continually make the playoffs have players that are really good at what they do (you might call them "stars").

I like most people just hate, and that's a strong feeling, the Junkees.

To be fair, this isn't the first time the Sox have been shunned by players with the ability to block trades, it's happened a good amount recently. And I think part of it might stem from the fact that players talk to one another. It's no secret that Ozzie isn't very well-liked by most of the players in the MLB (whether Ozzie is truly a player's manager or a douchebag is of no consequence here), and there is no doubt in my mind that players that have found themselves in Ozzie's dog house have decried what Ozzie does to players on other teams, and the word has gotten around that if, for whatever reason, Ozzie has a bone to pick with you, he's going to make you suffer as best he can. And to go along with that they know that he has the owner's backing, so it's no mystery who will hold sway in a dispute between the player and manager.

And on top of all that, the Sox are a very clique-ish kind of team. Konerko, AJ and Buehrle have formed their own sect within the roster (yeah, like in high school), and if you're on their shit-list, be you another player, media member, whatever, you're going to be hassled and perhaps sent packing. It happened with Nick Swisher (both the Ozzie's dog house and run-ins with Konerko and AJ), and is currently happening to Mark Teahen.

Overall, it's no wonder why players aren't in any particular hurry to join the Sox when there are other teams calling: from the outside looking in, the organization looks poorly run and ill-fitting for a new guy, be he established or not.

Berkman was one of the hottest hitting players in the bigs last year.He just hasn't been particularly healthy the past year and half.

He's still pretty awesome.

actually lance berkman had a player tell KW that it was nothing personal and that he wanted to play with his former teammate and good friend andy petitie. per 670 the score. player on the sox who informed kw is not named as of yet. so this arguement can come to a close
