Of course I chose the lower picks that turned out well, my point was there are many as good or better choices just like in the top 5. Lot's of misses in top 5 in these drafts I looked so they're not a guarantee either. I understand your point and you're correct but it wasn't the point I was trying to make in this case.
I guess it comes down to an evaluation of the talent available at, say, the #2 pick vs the talent likely to be available lower down.

If you believe the player at 2 will be a dominant all-pro type, that would be the better decision. If you see almost equivalent talent further down, then go for it.

Since there is a better chance that the #2 pick will be gold, and more judgment would be required to sift through the lower picks, I think the ability of the decision maker should be factored in. Personally, I don't have a lot of trust in Poles, and might be inclined to stay with# 2.

You make some good points. Probably a better comparison would be the top five against 5-10, then against 10-15 etc. but I don't have the time or patience to do it. I'm thankful for all the info you have already compiled. Bottom line; it's going to take some monumental stupid to screw this up, whether the Bears trade down or stand pat.
I thought about doing that but felt the post was already too long and folks wouldn't read it or get engaged. I agree with your point however but no time to complete the task, I was surprised to see all the top players taken all the way down to the end, examples- Larmar Jackson @ # 32 and Kenny Clark @ # 27 just from memory..

Another interesting way to look at it is from the perspective of the trade partner...

...if you'd be willing to give up what they're offering for who's available at your pick, draft the stud.

...if it would cost too much to give all that up to "trade up for that guy", accept the trade & "keep" extra picks that are on your plate. ?
