IF they draft Eifert that will make the Bennett and Maneri signings look REALLY dumb.

I think the M. Bennett signing is dumb anyways, but I digress. :tiptoe:

No, I'd have been perfectly fine if they took Ertz over Eifert. I just think the Martellus Bennett deal is a more expensive version of Kellen Davis, and you can disagree with that, but that is my expectation with this deal. Hope I'm wrong.

With my ND homer goggles off for Eifert, he was the only member of that team that came to play against Alabama.

we could draft someone at any position besides OT, RB, S and QB in the first round. Anyone drafted at another position would have the opportunity to compete for playing time early and a starting spot the next year. And that is the conservative route, many guys that could fall to us would be able to play early (except CB without an injury)

As long as we don't reach for someone... I'd much rather we take BPA, even if we're strong at that position. (TE) If a top tier LB or DT were available however, I might be inclined to lean that way if the run on Olineman clears out all of the 1st rounders worth taking at 20.

Rotoworld cited Schefter today saying he polled people around the league and thinks Warmack has a good chance to be available at 18. Anything could happen

i'd like that very much. would be okay with warford, but this would be better

If Emery could find the right team to trade back with theres a possibility we could have both of Warford & Frederick. **** Mel Kiper.

Means that playmakers will fall, might make it easier to trade down since there might be a better chance for that great WR or DB or someone that a team like SF or Houston might wanna trade up for.

Also, can anyone tell me whether Eifert plays fast? I think I recall him being kind of slow at the Combine no?

He ran 4.66 at the combine which is good.

I don't think he plays particularly fast and he reminds of Jason Witten, fast enough because he is big and fights for the ball.

Oh okay, that's not bad then. Witten comparison would be great. I'm a big fan of Witten, I think he's been a tremendously solid TE for a very long time, too bad he's on a team like the Cowboys... such a shame. Anyway, that'd be really cool! Thanks for the info Windy!

I really like Tyler Eifert... not just as an offensive weapon but as a blocker... he did a tremendous job picking up the blitzes in the Alabama game and is a good hand fighter...

The best thing about Tyler Eifert isn't his size or his speed or even his hands... even though all of them are really tremendous assets of his...

His most valuable asset is that he does what most wide receivers in the NFL fail to do most of the time... Keep moving during a scramble... play to the whistle... you will notice how often he becomes open after the pocket collapses... I would say a really good percentage of his receptions this year came after the play broke down... that's something we could really use from a TE... He can Play WR and block... and Bennett can too... which means we can run a 2 TE set and really **** with a lot of defenses... especially teams who run 3-4 defenses...

TEs are becoming the hardest players to defend against in the NFL... Having an Elite player at that position is vital to winning championships...

If he is drafted you could close the book on drafting a TE for a really long time...

A player like Eifert is a giant mismatch for Linebackers...

I wouldn't mind if we took Eifert as our 1st pick, 20 or traded down, if he was the BPA. Eifert and M. Bennett would make the Trestman's Offense very versatile and effective. I'm not counting on Rod, Adams or Steve Maneri to be anywhere as capable as Eifert.

I think we'll have done well with a 20th pick of Warmack, Cooper, Patterson, Austin, Keenan Allen, Fluker, Bjoern Werner, Barkevious Mingo, Alex Okafor, Ezekiel Ansah, Kawann Short, Desmond Trufant, Xavier Rhodes and Tyler Eifert. Those are all good picks at 20. I think all the LB are slight reaches. (However, I don't see a 1st round DE pick if we sign Izzy back, unless we're cutting Peppers.)

If we trade down and our 1st two picks includes one from the above list, or one of Warford, Kyle Long, Kevin Minter, Arthur Brown or Alec Ogletree, I think we're doing really well too. (Wouldn't mind Ertz as a 1st pick, if we got a very good guard with a 2nd pick -- as with any trade down 1st/2nd pick, it should include a really good guard.)
