Picking up Leatherwood was just gambling with the McCaskey's money. Bears had cap space.
Its funny how a few people are so distraught about the McCaskey's money.
The Bears had/have cap room and could afford to gamble. They were high on the waiver wire. Its a good match to try and experiment and see if you can get some talent.

Not much of a mistake really...A team with very little talent taking a flyer on a former first round draft pick, and then discarding that player once the roster was improved. No real downside as far as I can tell.
