$$$.

Trading them away for "better" prospects.

But we know everything the Cubs do is the bestest :fap:

Prospect for prospect trades hardly ever happen.

Theo and Co. have not traded good cost controlled players. With all the payroll that is opening up, I fail to see how money is going to be an issue. But then again, you're a troll, so logic probably isn't going to go far, is it?

Payroll has opened up ever since Ricketts became owners.

The only time when payroll increased year to year was when the Cubs extended Castro in the 2012 season.

As a whole, payroll has decreased from $146M to $89M since 2010.

The only thing I've heard from the Ricketts family is whining and crying over the rooftop owners that Crane Kenney inexplicably chose to acknowledge as an entity. It's taken nearly 4 years for renovations to get off the ground stages. In that same 4 years, payroll has decreased by more than $50M.

I'll believe a payroll increase when I see it. Otherwise, predictions that the Cubs are going to increase payroll is really empty rhetoric.

Anyone who doesn't blindly support anything the Cubs do is a troll.

Payroll doesn't have to increase, for payroll to open up.

Wow.

I should be shocked but I'm not.

Let me explain this again.

The Cubs have reduced payroll by $50M over 4 years.

Wouldn't at least $50M in payroll have been opened up, along with the Ricketts acquiring revenue streams via Wrigley Field, rooftop owners, Cubs, other personal ventures etc.?

Then again, anyone who openly proclaims on their first press conference that they are Cub fans should raise some questions.

Their talk has been cheap as owners. Prove it with results on the field. The initial batch of results are on their way and at least in Rizzo look good.

The question I think any logical Cub fan would have is if (when) these players do well, is Theo going to be able to give them big extensions?

Ricketts have acquired very few revenue streams via Wrigley thus far. The Landmark jazz is the first step toward that.

“We’ve been very transparent from the beginning here that we were going to take a big-picture approach and do it the right way and build it from the bottom up,” Epstein said. “There really wasn’t much of a choice. There wasn’t really a prime-age major league talent here, nor much of a farm system when we got here.

He's been on record saying things like this multiple times. Should we have raised the payroll and still sucked? As far as I am concerned the payroll can stay at 110 Mil and we're going to be alright. That's more than enough money to field a winner year in and year out and lock up all the players coming up through the minors.

We gone over a million times of why the decrease in payroll happened.. mainly because of the agreement with Zell when they bought the team, wish I believe was for 7 yrs.
I hope we don't need to go round n round over that again.

I hope you all arent foolish enough to think payroll not going to increase as they start piecing the team together with their young core.

As far as extending their top prospects , im sure in a few years when that time comes they will try and work something out with them as they did with Rizzo and Castro.

I really dont get how some of you can still call ownership cheap after they just spent millions on ST facility , international academy , WF renovation, international FAs , and amateur draft.

All important structures to building a winning organizations.

The signing of long term FAs will come which will increase payroll when their ready to buikd around the young core that about to come up.

The payroll is at $88M and its 23rd in all of baseball. That's "fine."

Yep.

Fanboys will be fanboys.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I think this is the key offseason for the Ricketts. They finally got the approval needed for the renovations to begin. So they better start adding that expected revenue towards the team now. When Baez, and Bryant get called up this team could be decent if Ricketts allows the front office to land some high end pitching talent this offseason. If the Cubs spend like $20 mil again this offseason I will really begin to lose faith

“It’s tough sometimes because we want to win,’’ All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro said Monday at the All-Star media session. “But those people up there, the president and the general manager, they do a pretty good job. Fairly soon we’ll be a good team because we have a lot of great, young players. They’re all about preparation.’’

Looks like Castro and Rizzo are on board. I thought earlier in the season Rizzo made his displeasure known?

If losing these past few years leads to a WS then I will forget all about the past few years.

If it fails then well the Reds did the same thing and....

Honestly, the Cubs could be a power house in a couple years....if the prospects pan out.

That a huge if, coupled with a rather mediocre pitching staff and even if those same prospects pan out, they are still at stage one. Theo is taking an awful risk thinking teams will be lining up for prospects the way he chose to build this team. He is either one step ahead or he is out to lunch in that regard. Granted, the Cubs will surely have the number one farm system in baseball next year if they dont already. The addition of Russell puts them with three top ten prospects in all of baseball right now.

They are the Edmonton Oilers of MLB. You are projecting greatness without showing even one shred of proof it can actually happen at the highest level yet.
