When Fehr is quoted as stating it is an "excellent start", I would definitely say it is progress.

This is a hell of a move by the NHL. I really think it puts the ball in Fehr's court and will make him out to be the bad guy if a deal doesn't get done now.

Adam Jahns twitter " #Blackhawks NHLPA rep Steve Montador on NHL's offer: "Will the players accept it? I don't think so....50/50 can mean a lot of things." "

Dreger and McKenzie seem to think that this proposal will lead to 10 hard days of negotiating and then hopefully a deal comes from that. Seems this offer is definitely moving in the right direction.

Also those rumors popping up again about expansion being announced after CBA, though league denied it. Sounds like Toronto II and Quebec though.

It is progress. With the two groups as entrenched as they've been on the core economic issues, for one side to ease up on the hardline stance has things going in a positive direction. Does it mean we'll have a deal tonight? I don't think so. I see the union rejecting this one but presenting a counter offer. If the union doesn't present an offer (like it's been out there that they've plan on presenting the past week or so...but haven't), than perception, including mine (and I am generally pro-union), will turn on them big time.

What a nice way for all of the owners to make more revenue that the players cannot touch, right?

A crime? No. Unethical? Yes.

It makes a lot of sense to me, the players still get just as much money as they would have before, and then when the expansion teams start play that opens up more jobs and increases the 50/50 pot. Helping owners doesn't necessarily hurt players.

It's not what this game of hockey needs - more rats (in the worse sense of the word) or "garbage ass" players. There's already enough riff raff "betweener" players already. Greed, greed, greed.

Yeah, nothing like thinning out the talent pool. The gap between the NHL and the AHL continues to narrow while the price to see a game grows......

For the billionth fucking time, I know it will dilute the talent pool and I'm not advocating it, but you cannot deny that it makes a lot of ECONOMIC sense for the current 30 owners (besides the Leafs).

Really seems like the NHLPA is on lockdown. Thought we would have heard more than Fehr's initial reaction.

In the short run, I'd agree with you that it would make sense for the owners. In the long run, I couldn't say with certainty. The TO area supporting a second team may bode well. I'm not sold on QC being a great spot (been there; done that) even though they will most likely require a 5 year guarantee plan for season ticket holders like they required in the Peg...and probably get. How will it work beyond that, I don't know.

I'm not in complete agreement that its going to help the players.
