So my iPad broke and while I didn't use it a whole lot, I'm trying to set up a work desk in my room so I don't have to rely on my iPhone.

I'd like to stick with the something apple and I've thought about getting the MacBook Air 13". Anybody have any reviews or use this?

I have an 13" Air and a 15" Pro. All depends on what you want to do with it. I can say this, I know there are less expensive options out there, but I absolutely love the Pro. For me it's a complete desktop replacement. At work I have a second larger display I use though. The Pro is likely overkill for you though if you were getting by with an iPad :)

The problem with the IPad was that it didn't do enough of what I wanted. I do have an Asus laptop that is slower than shit and I tried the iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard but didn't like have to actually touch the screen to click certain parts and such (such as editing emails or clicking links).

Because I coach youth sports and do private lessons, I was using the iPad and the coaches eye app that allowed me to break down technical skills and such (was one of the main reasons I got it). I obviously need something that will do that, but I could easily take video through the app with my iPhone 6 and transfer it to the Mac to do editing and make voice notes.

I also do a lot of emailing, word/excel documents and cruise the web.

I have friends who have MacBooks and I love the simplicity to it and how easy it is to use.

The MacBook Air is on sale at bestbuy for $850 and I guess now is as good as any to buy one, basically just not sure about the odds and ends since I have only had an iPhone and iPad.

Does the Air have good resolution and speed compared to other laptops of comparable types?

I also do a tad bit of gaming, primarily Outside Of The Park baseball sim game every now and then. It's atrocious on the Asus and takes for ever to run.

I've had a 13" Air for four years, and it's the best machine I've ever owned. The new ones are even better than this one.

Now, when it says (latest version) does that mean it's 4 years old, or more recent.

You could get an ASUS zenbook that has the same form factor with twice the performance for 2/3rds the price and all the same hardware manufacturers. But it won't have an apple on it.

My issue is I'm already using Apple products (iPhone) and the ability to cross-platform the device and apps is a big reason why I'd like to stay Apple.

I've got a 13' macbook pro. Runs much faster than my 15' Sony lap top. I was going to get the macbook air, but when I bought my macbook pro, it was only a little bit heavier than the air and had higher resolution. Because I like watching movies, videos, youtube, etc., I opted for the pro.

I bought the low end MacBook Air last night at Best Buy.

849+ tax, plus you can finance it at 0% interest for 12 months.

I did this with my desktop. Built a Hack-intosh with 1000 dollars of PC parts and put the Mac OSX on it. Similar machines would sell for 5000 if they were Mac.

That's what I was originally looking at.

How do you like it?

I've been working with Macs (and Windows based PCs) for years, so I'm fine with what I purchased. I downloaded Premiere CC (video editing software) and Photoshop CC late last night, so I can let you know how those programs perform (Premiere will tax systems).

My sister is obsessed with getting a Macbook Pro. I could get a maxed out windows laptop for that price...
