Are you just trying to start a shit show within this thread?

There's absolutely nothing that's going to convince me that Justin Fields is going to be great. I was off the Justin Fields train very early and I'm not getting back on.

Justin Fields is terrible for a lot of different reasons but the biggest reason he's terrible is also the reason I no longer want him as QB of the Chicago Bears.

He's not going to magically become a better QB. He can improve but he's never going to be elite.

Example A is Dak Prescott. Prescott had his best season as a pro this year and like he has every he's been to the playoffs promptly shit the bed.

This argument isn't even about Justin Fields anymore. It's about Kirk Cousins and his career failures in the playoffs. Tua Tagovaiola Dak Prescott and if Josh Allen isn't in the Super Bowl this year it could become the same issue with him.

We may see CJ Stroud start his career legacy today if he beats the Ravens who are clearly the better team. There are QBs across the league that have it and others who don't.

Justin Fields Dak Prescott Kirk Cousins Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovaiola don't have it.

Patrick Mahomes has it, Joe Burrow has it and then there's everyone else.

Josh Allen could have the same legacy of failure in the playoffs as Aaron Rodgers.

I'm not looking for Brock Purdy. I'm not looking for a Jared Goff. I have an incredibly high standard for QB play, probably a completely unreasonable and high expectation for QB play.

But I'm completely over good QB and hoping someone who is so fantastically bad hopefully becomes good.

Absolutely not, but I thought it might be worthwhile for you to listen to a voice that knows so much more about the game and how it works than you’ll ever know.

Brock Huard was on with Waddle/Silvy the day before and he seems to be in on keeping Fields and modeling our team after the Ravens: another cold weather team. He says that a leader of men is so very important at the QB position.

He also says to avoid Shane Waldron as OC.

Thanks—good listen.

It’s fear-based philosophy that will keep the Bears from even trying for greatness, but good listen.

Here’s the deal: A lot of people advocating for “THE HAUL!!” are just assuming all those picks will turn out great. They’re doing the same thing they accuse the Williams supporters of doing.

1) Many of them are assuming you’ll get Marvin Harrison, Jr, plus two future first rounders. There’s almost no possible way that happens. If you trade down far enough to get 2 future 1st rounders, that’s too far down to get MHJ. If you only trade down a spot or two, that’s probably not far enough down to gather 2 future 1st rounders.

2) They’re assuming “THE HAUL!!” is “franchise making”. Let’s play this out: The Bears trade down to, say, the high single digits/low double digits and get 2 future 1st rounders. They use those picks on a DT, an edge rusher and, ok fine, a receiver (I have my doubts).

Fast forward a few years when you actually see the fruits of those picks, using THE BEST CASE SCENARIO. You have a great, young, developing DT, edge rusher and receiver. Meanwhile, by this point, you’re paying Fields $40 million a year, you’ve let JJ go because he’s getting too expensive, and you’re taking offers on DJ because he’s also getting expensive and you already have his young great replacement on your team.

^^Does any of this bring you into Super Bowl contention? Or does it just create a mediocre-team cycle?

And mind you, this is the best case scenario. The more likely scenario is “THE HAUL!!” a few years down the line turns into a couple of good players and a couple of busts. Nice haul. Was it worth it? Meanwhile you’re having to watch Stroud kill it in Houston and Williams potentially killing it in Washington or New England.

You still have a mediocre quarterback who’s 3rd or 4th in your division, but hey, at least you’re 9-8 and didn’t have to take a risk!

Bottom line: “THE HAUL!” is not the guarantee some people think it is. Neither is Williams. I acknowledge that. But I’d like my team to try instead of always being scared.

We’ve seen this team in recent years have all world defenses, Hall of Fame linebackers, All-Pro edge rushers, an offense full of skill position Pro Bowl playmakers.

And where has it gotten them?

You know what they haven’t had? A great quarterback.

I want a great quarterback.
Great fucking post.

His passer rating stayed basically the same (85->86) and his QBR decline by 10 points from 22 to 23.

Statistically, he was pretty much the same from 22 to 23. YPA, TD:INT, total yards up a bit because of more attempts.
Three seasons, eerily similar statistical results. This is Fields' ceiling.

As another poster mentioned, the same arguments were made for Cutler..."he needs more weapons. He needs a better OC. The O-line sucks. Etc etc..." Then Chicago gives Cutler more weapons and a QB friendly system and the results were almost the exact same.

If Poles passes on Caleb Williams at #1 and Justin Fields' struggles continue there is a really good chance both Poles and Flus are looking for work after the 2024 season. I'm surprised this isn't talked about more.

I will also say this...the fact that Poles was non-commital on Fields in the most recent presser was a pretty good indicator that Fields did not improve enough like any sane person could see.

QBR is subjective

Passer rating has improved, yards per game improved, completion percentage, total yards per game
Not only is QBR subjective, but it's a poor stat.

But if they want to use it, let them explain Fields' QBR when targeting Moore being near perfect vs when he targets everyone else.

Why? They just paid a QB that they can’t easily get rid of.

The obvious one to me is the Patriots so they can get one of the top 2.
And I'd have no issue getting a 2nd and 3rd plus Harrison. Works for me.

I respect Riddick, I appreciate his opinion, but there’s a reason he’s not a GM. Thinking Fields is going to jump from a career rating of 82 to an elite QB with a new OC is the rosiest and optimistic of takes.
The goal is to have a TEAM that can win championships, not find the most elite QB. Marino was the most elite QB I've seen and couldn't win. Rodgers has 1 ring, same with Favre. I could list plenty of "elite" "franchise" QBs that won nothing.

Caleb has flaws on and off the field that people are ignoring simply because they have QB envy and thus pretend that Justin has been the reason the Bears have been bad the last 3 seasons, when the truth is most likely the exact opposite.

Your odds of winning it all, and competing every year are the highest when you have an elite QB. This isn’t really that complicated. Currently it’s Mahomes who is carrying his team every year deep into the playoffs. Before him it was Brady. The teams that win super bowls typically have a tier one elite QB.
