Braxton is one year away from FA. Looking at what Dan Moore got from Tennessee, he is going to get more than that. Do you feel comfortable paying him that kind of money? As of right now, I’d say no. If you let him walk, you are either betting on Amegadjie completing turning it around or you are heading into next year’s draft with a giant gaping hole that everyone knows you need to fill. We have no idea if next year’s LT class is any good. If it’s weak, then they are toast and are probably cornered into paying Braxton. If there are 1-2 great prospects, then it’s likely that they’ll need to trade up to get one of those guys, given that we all expect the team to bounce back.

Hypothetical. Let's say we draft a LT at #10, but Amigadje wins the LT job and becomes a stud. What then?
What if my aunt had balls…?

Then whomever we drafted would play RG next year and we don’t pay Jonah Jackson. Hella money saved. It’s really not that hard to see.

Then you have a succession plan at guard as the top guys (Membou, Campbell, Banks Jr) are all projected to have position flexibility. Thuney isn’t a spring chicken and Jonah Jackson isn’t known to be an iron man.

The odds the kid from Yale turns out to be your long term LT seems like a pipe dream to me…hated that pick.

I really don't like Banks as a prospect. I think it would be a big mistake to take him at 10. I see him being an average LT, below Jones.

In the spirit of the thread, if they go OT, I hope it is Membou, if he’s available, which he probably won’t be.

I think Mykel Williams would be a good pick. And as much as many hate the idea, I firmly believe Jeanty is in play, maybe even more than someone like Banks. Johnson was certainly involved with taking Gibbs at 12. I don’t think they would hesitate to take Jeanty at all if he falls to 10.

Will Campbell would be tempting but if you're not sure about him being your future LT then you need to pass.

We know Poles is a big measurables guy so it's hard to see him taking Campbell there. Membou could easily be the pick there if he's available, but at this point, it looks like he wouldn't be.
Do you have a game you can shout out to, where Campbell is dominant against a top opponent?

Just a sanity check, because personally, I don't see him as the next big thing at OT.

So are you saying Braxton Jones career at Southern Utah was so impressive that you believe a consensus 1st round starting LT from a top 5 school, couldn't possibly be better than him?

I'm just trying to comprehend what you are using to come to this conclusion that Braxton is hard to replace?

who knows if he beats him out or not

either way, it sure would be nice to have a LT on the roster learning and getting ready to replace Jones when he hits FA. better than just hoping the next draft situation is better for the bears at the LT position and avoids HAVING to take a LT just to take one
Agreed.

Worst case scenario, he starts in a year. Better scenario, he wins the job before the year is out.

I don't understand this argument so many are making lately that they seem to apply to everyone: He won't be ready to be above average NFL player Day One.

These same people question acquiring vets who will be here two years, while drafted players develop.

Make it make sense!

I’m not saying Jones is hard to replace at all. Quite the opposite. I think he has been an average LT. I also think it’s great he outplayed his draft slot.

So, he’s not hard to replace, I just don’t want Banks to replace him, regardless of where he played ball. That’s because I do not think he will be a good T in the league, and may very well kick inside anyway.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this is a very good draft for T prospects. However, I think if the medicals clear, Simmons is a good T prospect.

everyone does remember that Amegadjie is coming off a torn quad that required surgery, right? A similar but different injury that knocks Simmons out of round 1 potential, and Simmons is a far better prospect that played significantly better competition that Amegadjie did at Yale? We all remember that or nah?

When you say LT, do you mean Ashton Jeanty? The next LaDanian Tomlinson?
