I belive we still have to draft a QB, but a signing like this doesn't put our back against the wall. We don't HAVE to sign a QB in the first if we get a decent or even average QB. It puts you in a position take BPA in the draft instead of drafting for need. If a Jones drops to us in yhe 1st....draft him still. If Trask is there in the second, draft him.

Goff and Fitz would be an intersting tandem. Or Goff and Smith.

Goff is the only "starter" money guy there. Goff is the only upgrade from Trubisky, maybe Fitz as a band-aid.

I'm not sure goff is really an upgrade either.

He plays great at times but so does mitch. He's inconsistent as fuck, streaky as fuck. He also has the pleasure of dealing with a much better supporting cast and a much smarter OC/playcaller and still looks like trash half the time.

Everyone on here shits on pace, but Imagine if we gave up two firsts, 2 seconds, and 2 3rds for Mitch? Thats what they did for Goff. Then they paid him!

SMH, people would be trying to kill pace.

Not sure what anyone saw in that game to make us want him. He was super mediocre. He did exactly what most backups do when they get shoved into a game because the other team didn't prepare for them.

Guy has sucked for years now. There will be no turn around.
It should be noted the defense he was playing, the Chargers, could not stop anyone at that time, and mostly they just couldn't stop the run so Vegas pounded them down the field, terrified to give the ball back to Herbert.

Mariota kept drives alive, but those conditions were ridiculous. The Chargers defense was trash, banged up, mia, and helpless against everyone.

How does that save Ryan Paces job, tho?

Yes and Yes.

But Goff can throw the ball. I'd take a peak at him in a new system if he gets away from Rams.
Even though I think you are right and his current system is a benefit to him...

GTFOH with this homer Trubisky stuff. He is terrible. I would take any starter in the NFL over Trubisky.

Sounds like you have hometown bias.

I know its shocking, but there are QB's out there worse than mitch. I think the nick foles experiment proved that.

True, Marcus Mediocrity would be an upgrade for the Bears. Think about that for a minute.
I actually think he isn’t an upgrade. We had 2 back up quarterbacks last season and went 8-8. Mariota is another back up quarterback who would get us no better than 8-9 if he and the team plays perfectly.

we don’t need another backup quarterback

Man...CCS is desperate and grasping at straws.. Some of the names mentioned here make me nauseous.

Truth is, getting a stop gap QB isn't any more appealing than keeping what we have.

Any upside to a high end QB will be mitigated by having NAGY. Upgrading the team should have started with firing the entire F.O.

In short, were doomed!

Grasping at straws just might be the Bears reality this offseason when talking any QB's we can get in free agency though.

D.Watson isn't a reality because too many teams can offer more.
M.Stafford isn't a reality because they most likely won't trade him in division.
A.Rodgers isn't leaving GB

Maybe we could get in on M.Ryan but the Falcons moving on from him is nothing more than speculation as of now and if they do i think San Fran leads that pack.

That's leaves us grasping at straws like JG, if San Fran moves on from him, or M.Mariota or S.Darnold, if they trade for Watson or draft one at #2.

I think all we can hope for is if we do get one of those mentioned or any of the others that would be grasping at straws is that Pace still takes his shot with one of these in the draft.

Jimmy G, Goff, Fitz, Mariota, Alex Smith...? Pace will and should go for one of these. None are great, but all are better than what we have, and won't cost a boatload of picks to aquire.

If we could get A.Smith then he'd probably be my top choice of the guys that are actually a reality of us getting and then i'd go with Jimm G as my #2 of those QB's. That's of course with me having no idea which QB's will be out there and that we'd actually have a shot at getting.

Nice, so he can come here and suck with no oline and WR's.

Makes cents.

It doesn't make sense that you think the o-line and WR's we have now are the ones we'll have when the season starts. As of now nobody on here has any idea what this team will look like besides the players we have now that we know aren't going anywhere, and we don't even know that for sure because there will be cuts or trades coming as well.

The Rams could theoretically trade Goff, but it would be tough for them to find a better option with their cap situation and lack of draft capital.

Matt Ryan is basically untradeable this year, it costs just about the same to cut him or keep him. I guess if they draft Fields or Wilson and just take it as a rebuild year, but that is a huge cost that will move forward as well in the form of less rollover.

If we could draft a really good tackle or two, the addition of Fitz or Goff would both be big upgrades to our offese right away.

he wasnt considered in free agency last year, what makes you think anything has changed on that stance
You think the Bears are in the same position in terms of QB that they were in last year at this time?
