Cubs Interested In Matt Garza
By Tim Dierkes [December 8 at 9:54pm CST]
9:54pm: The Cubs and Rays met again to talk about a potential trade that would send Garza to Chicago for prospects, according to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. The Brewers and Rangers have also met with the Rays about Garza, but the Cubs have the strongest current bid, according to Levine.

!!

I hope to god they don't give up too much for him

That's all i was thinking.. :obama:

What are you basing this off of? I'd love to hear.

I refuse to argue with you anymore.

I will not argue with someone who thinks that everything the cubs do is the best thing ever. sorry, i wont do it anymore.

You call me dramatic. :bowrofl::lmao:

You take so much out of context, it is ridiculous. You're right, getting a number 2 starter from the Rays, a team who won the toughest division in baseball is an awful thing.

You're the biggest Cubs homer on this board. It's ok to admit it.

Sorry for being an optimist.

So then you admit that you allow your personal biases to influence the assertions you make? I'm not saying that everyone should think that everything sucks, and it's perfectly fine to hope and dream, but when you start making specific claims with the confidence you do and begin to degrade or dismiss the claims of others, personal bias is the last thing you want factoring into your decisions.

As for Garza specifically, he would be alright. Nothing to scream to the high-heavens about, but a solid addition, albeit probably more than a bit overpaid. The thing about Garza is this, though: he has the potential to be really good for the Cubs, or really bad. His BABIP and HR/FB rates have both been right around the average for the last three years, so any fluctuation in those numbers could yield very positive or very negative results, depending on which way he dances about the mean. It might take a little more luck to stay near the average or operate on the better side of it, though, considering he's moving from Tropicana to Wrigley.

If the Cubs were only a few key pieces away from making a legitimate go of things in the NL Central, I'd say open the checkbook and fire away at his agent. They aren't, though, and are likely 3-4 years away from being serious competitors (granted, with astute GMing), and paying Garza a good chunk of money to pitch (good or bad) for a fledgling team for the next few seasons while the pieces fall into place doesn't seem like the brightest idea.

I don't think it is 3-4, I think it may be a little less in their division (2-3). But otherwise, I agree.

Garza would be nice in the rotation, but just don't give up too much.

A guy who has has under 4 ERA in AL EAST would be very good in NL CENTRAL. These guys are called prospects for a reason. Good chance they never do anything in MLB. Garza has proved he can win in MLB. I would give up 3 specs for Garza without even thinking about it. We all know that Bjax and Archer are not in deal. So if they give up Lee, 1 SP (McNutt,Jackson, or Carpenter) and Chrinos im all for it.

i dont know why some of you have it in your head that the Cubs specs are the best thing since beer was invented. The Cubs system isnt even in top 10. So if you can get 27 y/o SP that has won 15 games in AL EAST YOU DO IT

Nobody said not to get Garza or give up specs. Just not our best ones, Archer and BJax.
