Exactly. The Truth. After ponying up for players for many years now and recently for facilities, the front office is the Bears last bastion of cheapness. Maybe if there were four or five more guys in the room, Ryan Pace could have been talked down from paying Mike Glennon 18 million dollars, to say...five million dollars for the FA QB slated to start the season, saving 13 million. Right there would have paid for the extra FO staff for a few years. Or better yet, sign a FA QB who can actually PLAY QB. Maybe they would have convinced Pace to stand pat at the third pick if he wanted Trubisky so badly, saving two additional draft choices. Or better yet....trade down a few spots, pick up some extra draft capital...and draft Mahomes. Or not have over-drafted two unathletic tight ends. Or not have hired John Fox. Or have seen through Matt Nagy's bullshit.
Pace was effectively buying the groceries, redecorating the house, talking to the chef to buy the ingredients and much more. He was learning and had no one to give him any help.
If he had, many of the things that he did wrong, like you mentioned, could have been avoided. Maybe the Bears draft Watson and keep him from doing the shit he did in Houston. Maybe an assistant GM tells him straight up to can Nagy years ago and helps him to pick a better HC.
But having Teddy and George as his sounding board was a joke.
