Everyone here knows that the only thing Stalberg does is look good on the ice.

I thought there were one or two of 'em on here...and the ones who we have here have brought good hockey chit-chat.

On another board I used to frequent, oh my were many of them puds. Just as all fan bases.

I do believe I know one of them and agree whole-heartedly. :lmao:

Pisani....you know you're useless when Edmonton can't use you

Scott....a one trick pony ala Cam Janssen, tough to use up a slot on him

How about throwing Bryan Bickell's 6'4" 225 lb ass in front of Luongo? He's got the size and that quick wrister...not much else though.

Bickle, Stal, or Brouwer better get in front of that net if they want to get a win.. Kopecky will do it in his way but it isn't gonna be near enough for what they'll need. Kopecky is willing, you have to give him that.

I feel like Coach Q should call one of those guys (Bickell, Brouwer) into his office and show them the tape of what Buff did last year. "See that? Now you do it."

It's the best way to rattle Luongo.

agree...

Also, I know its an unpopular choice round here, but I know Iago and I think it would be a good idea to dress Scott also over say Pisani or Smith...

He may not do much with the puck, but damn can he swing momentum your way...

With a guy like Raffi Torres out for the first 2 games of the series, this would be a great way for the hawks to swing some physicality the canucks way

The thing about screening goalies is that it takes guts - since you are going to be targetted by everyone and their uncle, their mother and the kitchen sink when you go to that spot on the ice -no matter what the level.

Stalberg isn't that guy - you don't have wheels like he does from standing in the slot; it just isn't his game. Size doesn't exactly matter. Oddly enough a guy who did it pretty well in his short time on the Hawks was Rick Vaive - I say oddly, as Vaive was a bonafide sniper. He had the guts to get pushed around and knocked all over the place that drew penalties as well, but wasn't the biggest guy out there.

Shooting is only one part about being the screener; you also ought to be pretty good at deflections on net... and that is a skill like sort of trying to bunt off of a fireballer in baseball. You can't just pull it out of your ass, you have to work on the timing for a long time in order to be even ok at it. I think the Hawks' brass hoped Scott might have been that guy at the start of the season -it was a dice throw -but a long shot, and never panned out - I doubt they got anyone else that can. I do suppose Buff could have been more effective in his regular seasons in Chicago if he were placed in that role from the start. He never was a sniper, per se -but if given the right opportunities I thnk he would have produced more during his stint on the team -but well, you know that is all speculation and video-board game hypotheticals anymore.

I suppose my point is you can't really chuck a guy out there and expect it to work.

As for Luongo...

Apparently he is susceptable to the left cross. :)

Which sort of points to what I was getting at .... who has the testicular fortitude to step up?

Height doesn't matter, nor does height times girth... but cojones does.

That and the ability to not have it hit off of your skate - as you don't want the refs deciding if it was a kick in or not .... no need for unnecessary suspense.
