If you go by career NBA salary, Joe Johnson officially became the most overpaid player in the history of the NBA, correct?

When he was at his peak (averaging 25 a game) he was on a contract paying him 67.4 million over 5 years.

Yet ever since, he's done nothing but 21 points a game. Nice. Decent. Good.

But not spectacular. Not great. Not a superstar.

21 points a game is good but it's just aight.

How this guy, a routine 21 ppg scorer got 6 years and 124 million (coming into the 10th year of his career) is something I will never understand.

Once his career is over, he will have made 200 MILLION dollars.

How could Joe Johnson get 200 million dollars!? That's more than MJ made from his NBA contracts.

Is there anyone more overpaid than Joe Johnson?

Joe Johnson has never scored 60 multiple times, including once on Kobe in Los Angeles. He's been in the running for MVP awards, whereas Joe Johnson has only received one vote. Arenas scored 30 ppg.

Gilbert is certainly overpaid at the moment, but just 4 years ago this guy was unstoppable.

Is he more overpaid than Joe Johnson, considering career achievement and pay?

Once his current contract is up, even Arenas will not have made as much as Joe Johnson, which is unbelievable to me.

Arenas by no stretch of the imagination deserves to be the highest paid guy on the Magic, yet he earned that money by how he played in Washington several years ago. I can see what you're saying though seeing he hasn't really played well and that he took what seemed to be 3 years off.

He's definitely on the short list.

Joe Johnson hasn't done anything Arenas has done though and he still has 20 million more.

What's strange is that people buy into the belief that he's a sg. yeup a 6'7 sg that weighs about 240lbs. We have those in the league. The hawks need to either move joe to sf, or they need to just plain move joe johnson. I've never been johnson fan, and i'm not going to start.

Does anyone remember sam smith's argument that we should go after Joe johnson and start taj gibson?

I don't think Sam Smith was advocating for Joe Johnson. I think he just was filling his blog with thoughts, and the Joe Johnson option was one that was thrown around.

I would have taken Joe Johnson at the 2, and Lee/Al Jeff at the 4. But not near the money Joe Johnson signed for in Atlanta.

Joe Johnson is a good player, he didn't go to those allstar games by accident. He is not a max player, which is what he is getting paid. He is a 15mil/year guy. And yes, he is a shooting guard. In 2011, you can no longer pigeon hole a player to a position based on his size. Is he too slow to play sg? No. Does he have sg skills? Yes. So that is a bit crazy.

Joe Johnson was one of Rose's top choices over the summer. Rose would MUCH rather have Johnson than Lebron it seems. And is not Joe's game compatible with Rose? The Bulls were considered favorites but they were going after Lebron. Joe was going to sit back and wait. Atlanta shocked everybody by offering a max deal that seals their fate as mediocre. THAT is when Joe Johnson became vastly overpaid. But again...you don't become a 5x allstar by accident. And if Joe was playing with this team...whoa boy...that would be a fantastic team...with practically NO weaknesses.

Rashard Lewis peeps. Couple good years stroking the 3 in Seattle, and Orlando gives him a 6 year 100 Mill contract. Thats all he does, shoot 3's, not very good anymore, and has no D, and no other offensive game. I dont think he even gets of the bench in DC.

Now that is a good one...Orlando overpaid quite a bit for a guy who I don't think was ever the 2nd best player on the team when they were any good....people who complained about Deng's contract should consider that for a moment.

As soon as I saw this thread, Lewis came to mind...just scrolling to see if anyone else had mentioned him.

Talk about accomplishing nothing the backcourt the Knicks had a couple of years ago with Marbury and Steve Francis.

C'mon guys! What about Chris Bosh? He's getting paid the most of the big 3 and is the least important to their success. He doesn't post up, and the only thing he's good for on the court is acting.

I'll agree with that, he'd be much more valuable for Miami if he played more like Dennis Rodman, rebounding and actually using his size.

Completely agree, but he's not tough at all. i.e. Didn't play at the end of last year with a broken nose. Don't forget the flop
:doorrofl:
