What 'i don't like is how they are just snubing Baez this year. He has for the most part over come what was killing him last year. He really never looked right in AAA and got rush jobbed up. We saw the result of it and he became SO king for it.

But that was managements mistake for tossing him into the fire. Kid was not ready.

Now what bothers me is if it was all about them using it as a part of the learning process then fine. But after he got it together this year they have for the most part have put their foot on his head to keep him in Iowa.

My opinion is it is all about him being inherited goods vs their choices. They rushed Russell. Gave him SS with out thinking twice. Their guy. Baez...AAA and give guys days off in Sept....role player. Regardless of the results he has gained this year.

To be honest Jed and Theo can be real dicks at times.
I think its more that there was no where to play him everyday and they just left him down to get ABs.

They weren't going to move Russell or Castro and when they finally decided to bench Castro, they needed a place to play Cogs with Schwarber taking over LF..

So yes, i think it was more to do with allowing the ones on the team to play and leave him down to get AB and work on everything he needed to work on in Iowa..

Again, hopefully he has good AB in September and he is considered for the 2B job next year

Maybe they need to see where LaStella fits in their plans. He's an OBP guy. What if they can't resign Fowler? It's easy to judge decisions from the cheap seats, IMHO.

LaStella is not a proven player. At his best he is a sub. I don't place much value in him. He is Theriot at best.

The Cubs got good use out of Theriot. Theo and Jed have been masterful at this rebuild. Maddon has chipped in his experience. It just isn't anything to pour spilled milk over.

Here is the thing. Adding Baez puts Castro out of a job. They both hit RH. So not adding Baez was a\more about not shoving Castro to the bench even deeper. Moving Coghlan to RF and adding LaStella keeps Castro in a platoon situation vs in Herrera's role. IE splinters in his arce.

That said it is catering. IMO they need to make a choice. Getting him ready for 3B now is just sending out some mixed signals on Bryant. If anything they should get Baez in CF some also and play it off as him adding flexibility for the play offs. This way they can open up more in house CF options for next year.

That is why I said at best he is. Theriot capped out fast. His talent was limited as was his D.

They only need LaStella as a platoon for 2 months tops. I don't care if he caps out in two months. ;)

He has played less than 4 months of baseball in his career.

How does anyone know what he is?

He is an OBP guy, and currently has a .984 Fielding percentage. Ryan Sandberg had a career .989 Fielding percentage.

Is he going to be Ryne Sandberg? No. But why don't we wait and see what he is going to be?

He may be the guy that gets the game winning RBI in a playoff game or WS some day. Who knows?

I always will make room for guys that hustle, play defense, and are tough outs at the plate. They are the ones that generally drive pitchers nuts, and we can't have enough of that.
