Biscuit is right. Industrial is helping put that polish on the big hits. I think Industrial may have influenced the dubstep and other genres of that ilk. So far as I am concerned, good for them for getting paid.

You can't always listen to the same shit. You have to change it up every now and again.

I like your theory Jako. As a metal fan myself I enjoy theory behind it on all levels.

i won't go into my feeling towards it though most have been touched on already.

Out of context of this thread I will say this. There aren't many genres, to me, which exemplifies taking an orchestrated sound and composition further than metal. I think thats my general attraction to it.

I will agree there. There is a lot of different things you can do with metal.

You should post me a list of metal bands you suggest and like. I am always looking for someone new to wrap myself around. Sure you have a lot of groups in your army which I have never heard. I have been on a rampage on the net lately looking for groups that I haven't had the chance to hear before. Beehoover is my favorite right now. Im blown away by them. Just found out about them a couple nights ago and I can't put them down.

Same with Industrial--gone now.

And I can make a "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" here...but I won't

We all have gulity pleasures in music. Hell, I still like "The Curly Shuffle".

My guitar teacher was in that band and played in that.

Music is a fun beast. Whats awesome to me is shit to others. But i will give you a taste of stuff I dig.

Machine Head. C'mon, if you don't know who they are and you are into metal, go listen to Enya. I wasn't crazy about Supercharger, but The Blackening was just the bees knees. Halo is one of my favs off the album. This is the shorter version, still not bad, but the longer version is better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTN2oKj4kmM

Meshuggah---a drummers worst nightmare. Admittedly, it is hard for me to listen to more the one song of theirs. I don't fault anyone for not being able. Lots of screaming. But that isn't the reason. They use some weird time signatures. They change the rhythm of the song at the drop of a hat. The guitarists will be in 4/4 time, the drummer in 5/4, or even something stranger. It almost sounds like they all recorded the songs in separate rooms at separate times, and just slapped it together. My favorite of their is an older tune called Future Breed Machine. I call it the alarm clock song. Click if you dare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOd-T58qHLA

One Time Hero. A local band located in my little town I live in. I stumbled on these guys about a month ago, and I dig what I hear. I think they have the chops to make it big. http://onetimeheroband.com/music/

See, I can't get into Meshugga. To each their own, though.

TCD: if you're looking for a little humor in your metal, I'll suggest "Austrian Death Machine". It's a side project of "As I Lay Dying".

I have also been digging In Flames. There are differences in their older stuff versus newer. It is kinda interesting to see a band grow.

Killswitch Engage. What an interesting band. They had their first singer Jesse Leach for a while. Then he feel into a depression and emailed the guys before they were to play a show. They got Howard Jones, who initially didn't like their sound. He had to memorize 7 songs in about 2 days. They hit mostly with Jones at the helm. Then suddenly, Jones left. He cited medical issues and a general loss of enthusiasm for writing and singing. They started looking for a new singer. Well, turns out, Jesse Leach was welcomed back.

They have a lot of good tunes. This was the first song I heard from them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6L0r92_I3MQ

This tune is excellent as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zb1Wghne1w

Another interesting note, in the liner notes for the first album featuring Howard Jones, his entire thank you was spent with apologies to the fans for not being Jesse.

Like I said, Meshuggah is a one song at a time thing. I really listen for the goofy time signatures and how tight they are.

ADM is great. GET TO THE CHOPPA!!!!!

And of course if we are talking funny metal, GWAR has to be there. I have The Insidious Soliloquy of Doctor Professor SkullheadFace. I need to watch that again.

I'm not really sure what Hooliganism is, but the Russian band Pussy Riot just got convicted of it. I know they mocked Putin. Just shows that music truly is a universal language and is used throughout the world as a form of expression.

These gals have a lot of guts. I really respect what they are doing. But I can't lie it has been funny hearing stuffy news reporters have to say pussy riot a bunch. If only Tom Brokaw was still doing the news.

Speaking of humor in metal (even though it's a perfect send-up of Glam Metal). Anyhone else here like Steel Panther?
