Early last year my back finally gave out. After years of going to the chiropractor, and not knowing my bone density was way down, I finally got x-rayed and an MRI. I was told My Osteoporosis was so bad that I had the bone density of a 95 year old women and my vertebra collapsed. Every vertebrae is fractured. There were weeks at a time last year where I couldn't even lay down without screaming in pain. Slept of the couch sitting up for weeks. Ungodly pain.
Had three Kyphoplastys done (separating the vertebrae with a balloon) and filling it in with cement. That didn't help and I have new pain shooting down my hip if I stand or walk for more than 5 minutes or so. That's on top of the constant back pain. I've been too 10 doctors and had every test in the book done and none can figure it out. I even went as far as getting an online second opinion from Cleveland Clinic. Still no solution, but I'm now injecting Forteo daily in my stomach. It sucks, and it won't even fix the damage or relieve pain. Basically, I'm screwed for life.
Anyways, I tried every pain killer including Norco and none help enough to justify the side effects. Plus I don't want to get dependent on them. I wish I had an answer for you man.
Dasux Tater... in your situation if you need the pain killers, use them.
I had 13 surgeries on my right leg between ages 9 and 17 and I was full blown addicted to Norco/Xodol at least 4 separate times because I was taking it regularly for 12-18 months at a time.
It is not fun, but it really is not impossible to come off of pain killers... I did it 4 separate times entirely my own decision after a 6-12 months of heavy daily use.
I know it can be scary to use pain killers because the notion of detoxing can seem insurmountable, but IMO that is because people are weak and they can't just suck it up and deal with a week of detox.... you are obviously not weak, so if you use pain killers and then have to deal with a week of detox in the future, I have no doubt you could do it.... I did it at 10, 12, 16, and again at age 18.... it is very possible.
Funny story to leave you with....
Junior year of High School at age 16 I had been using pain killers daily for over a year and began my detox.
I could not walk that whole year and would be on crutches for another full year basically.
So I had this **** of an English teacher who would give me shit even as I was dealing with all the surgeries and pain killers and junk.
I crutch into her room the 3rd day into my detox and I am sweating, I look haggard, I am carrying my 50lbs of books while using crutches.... the teacher turns to me and says "Mr. Ares.... you look terrible..... is everything ok?" and I reply "I have been on heavy narcotic pain killers for 14 months and I am 3 days into detoxing cold turkey off of them, what do you think?"
