they could but they cant even return with the same roster because they dont have money...but then again reinsdorf is an idiot so maybe he wont care?
Oh Reinsdorf definitely cares about not paying the luxury tax.

They can retain Vuc and stay under the tax though. Big thing would be to buy Lonzo out.

sure they can if they renounce everyone like white, dosumu, green...
why would lonzo agree to a buyout? its not like he can up and play right now... why give up free money when its his first big contract and next season he has his PO which he can exercise and gain another 21 mill.

The NBA is weird. You can remake a team in one offseason; hell the Lakers did that at the trade deadline this year.

That requires competent leadership and a plan, however. I think we have neither.

Wendell Carter, Franz Wagner, and the 11th pick is rough for Vuc.

On another note, Wemby won the draft lottery today. Going to Pop was the best scenario considering Pops track record of growing players.

Honestly, at this point I’d just strip the roster down. It’s not going anywhere. Keep Pat and Coby and see what they got with those 2 while simultaneously tanking and going for a high pick. I love Lavine and think he’s great, but it’s time to get some assets from him.

I liked how we didn't even get a card with our logo on it.

Wemby to the Spurs seems too fitting. Like LeBron to Cleveland or Rose to Chicago.

I don’t think I can accept a tank job while gifting 2025 first round pick to San Antonio. They’ve made a situation that makes no sense tanking until they actually own their draft picks

The Spurs pick is protected top 10 so it wouldn't an issue if you tanked.

But that was another bad trade because remember we traded them Thad Young who they flipped for another 1st. So essentially we traded 2 first round picks for them to S&T DeRozan, who they weren't re-signing anyway.

Looking at this, they should tank next year. Losing their pick to the Magic means next year they can't trade the pick. So tank next year, then you'll owe the pick to San Antonio (top 10 protected in 2025, top 8 protected 2026 & 2027). I'd basically have a three year plan to suck enough to be in the top 8 each of those years while focusing on developing your young guys and stockpiling picks.

I'd be looking to take advantage of the new CBA. I think it's going to backfire spectacularly as far as team building goes so I'd be prioritizing having a younger roster base and be open to taking short term salary dumps with picks attached. I expect them to heavily revert some of the stuff they've put into place at the conclusion of the 2029 season.

Just as an example, a team like OKC with tons of young prospects, will potentially be forced to pick and choose who to keep due how harmful reaching that 2nd level of tax lines becomes. They've already got one supermax level player in SGA. Now if Giddey, Jalen Williams or Chet prove themselves to become potential max (or supermax) eligible players, depending on who they sign, they could be approaching that 2nd level tax line quickly just on those 4 players once max eligible (3-4 years in the future). It's why I'd be prioritizing tanking now and putting myself in position to potentially be rewarded when teams have to start choosing who to keep and who they have to get rid of because of cost.

The Bulls are so pathetically fucked, at least the Cubs/Hawks/Bears have begun their rebuild - unlike the Bulls who are in purgatory indefinitely. I only wish fans stopped attending games.

No draft assets, no value-based player contracts, no plan, nada.

I admit I was initially stoked when AKME replaced GarPax but they are equally inept. I will give AKME credit for at least trying to aim high, albeit failing miserably. Better than GarPax who never even tried to really compete and assumed a laughingly low risk-profile in order to squeak into the playoffs purely for their own job security - all they cared for was high floor (and low ceiling) players to retain their jobs.
