I wonder if this was the guy who suggested the Refs call penalties more liberally too

We need one Taliban player to cry "religious persecution!" and this will never come up again.

In fact, beards will probably be mandated so as not to offend Muslims.

Gotta get these hockey lads to look proper.... can't be having these role models looking like homeless vagabonds...

I think we can all agree you expect NHL hockey players to look and sound like prince charming....

Where's CLWolf when you need him?

Sorry, but I was busy last night servicing a client. May I help you?

If you need some assistance, you need to get in line like everyone else. -.-

If you need help shaving your beard, I can recommend you to a good barber here in town.

I got some ideas to make the NHL more marketable:

First: get rid of fighting. Serves no purpose, idiotic, Special person, meatball.

Second: No more beards PERIOD. At all.

Third: Replace current players with women.

Meh, he's got a point. The NHL doesn't seem to resonate with people as much as other sports. Perhaps young, good lucking, clean-cut guys would help that.

I don't think he's saying playoff beards should be banned. I think he's just saying the young stars might get more exposure by showing their face. Tough to argue with that, although beards are awesome.

I don't buy it.

The reason hockey doesn't resonate with certain people is that it's a game they didn't grow up and play (due to $$$). Look at basketball which is played everywhere and is huge in inner cities and available to low income families for cheap. Baseball is basically the same thing with how cheap it is to play, even at its lowest levels. Football same thing. Hockey on the other hand can cost a family up to 2k just to play in a house league and that's before the equipment is even bought. And if you want your kid to play travel, you're looking at anywhere from 2,500+.

If you want the game to grow, the NHL and USA hockey (governing body of hockey in the U.S.) needs find ways to reduce costs and availability of ice, especially for low income families and poor areas where you have an NHL team. You also need success of those teams to generate interest.

I coach youth hockey and we saw our largest increase of new players in 2010 and 2013 which is when we won the cup. These are the people who will one day carry the game.

Grow your grass roots, put out a solid product, and good things will happen.

Hockey doesn't resonate because people don't play it as much as other sports, at least not in the US. It costs a lot of money to play. All of my Indian colleagues like cricket but not baseball, vice versa with me. It's all about what you are familiar with.

Doesn't Aaron Rodgers have a beard?

Next he'll ask "Can't they come do interviews immediately after the game ends? Why waste time with handshakes?'

"We could be interviewing them - why do they have to skate around the ice with that silver thing?"

Yes, but I can't think of her name right now.
