250 miles is the standard generic response from anyone about shoes. It's roughly right more than it is wrong so it's a pretty decent guess. I always go by how my legs feel during and after a run. If I'm getting a bit of knee twinge in my runs or my legs aren't recovering well and I've had my shoes for a bit I go buy more. Also, if the foam on the outer midsole starts getting really wrinkly(think Ommy's balls) then it's time to look into a change.I use the Brook's Ghosts. I've always been told about 250 miles, which for me is about 6-8 months. I have seen those Kinvara's, which I might try out, but I've seen my times fall and I'm pretty finicky about these things.
Brooks always ran REALLY narrow for me. I could never wear them. Saucony's are a bit of a roomier shoe in the forefoot. I got hooked on wider toe boxes by Merrell and other minimal shoes years ago. As a training shoe the Kinvara's are the best I've worn in years.
I might try a Nike for the first time in a decade as a racing flat(The ZoomX Vaporfly) but I need to get done with my Altra Vanish-R's first.
