I still don't like it, it is simply lessening people's chances to get a pro contract and thus making fewer kids want to take baseball as a career path.
Is that true? The best athletes are still going to play multiple sports. Some of them will be good at baseball and football, or baseball and basketball, or baseball and hockey. Let's say a kid knows he's really good at baseball and is chosen in the first or second round. He's going to get six to seven figures thrown at him before his 19th birthday. How many kids do you think will reject the opportunity to make that much money without having to go to college?
Serious question for folks to think about. I know you're in high school or college. If you were good at baseball and you were a couple years away from the NFL draft or NBA draft, do you wait, or do you take the money and run?
