The parents taking kids out of football are the parents of the marginal players. Kids that star in pop warner and early high school ball aren't suddenly being yanked from the sport just as the become college prospects. 6'3" 230 lb freshman aren't playing soccer or abandoning the sport. This is all about image and liability exposure. Trying to sweep up the mess they made by covering up what they knew for years.

That as well. But the kids in high school are also being more aware of the sport and making their own choice to stay or go. It’s not going to happen over night if it does happen. But you can’t deny that there are more kids/teens going away from football than before. But it’s ain’t by boat loads that’s for sure.

Well, I watched one Raven DB tapping on his shoulder when he put his head down and blew up Brown. The reason this will be unwatchable is because we will learn these multimillionaires dressing up to play a game on sunday are just no brain thugs.

Any pop warner coach is going to bench a player for not keeping his head up when tackling. You have to look at what you are trying to do. That is all.

Eventually, players will learn that hitting a guys elbow with a facemask hurts more than the helmet and they will start to use that as a weapon.

I blame that on lack of warrior spirit and vaccinations.

On that play his head came in front of the player and he did hit him with his shoulder to the players ribs, the side of his helmet may have grazed his jersey first, so yeah... he led with his head. It was a textbook pass break up, not malicious, not illegal, yet still flagged.

This is the same as Harley Building Electric and Adventure-Touring bikes, they are looking at the future and it will either pay off OR be a huge failure. I tend to think Harley will be fine, but Football is walking a fine line with the new rules.

So do I.

That and Roger G. I will likely always watch the Bears. I am quickly losing interest in the league in general and even the fantasy leagues I am in; one of them being with some of my oldest friends going back to the pre-fax machine days. I love the game, have Sunday Ticket, season tickets to the Bears and if my interest is waning then you can bet the casual fans over the last few years have completely lost interest.

According to how the rule is written, I saw a couple plays where it should have been flagged and wasn’t. Too much of a judgement rule that will cost teams wins and loses.

Every rule is a judgement rule though...

I agree. I thought Bray took a shot towards the end that was 100% the reason they implemented the rule. The defensive player led with the crown, launched, and hit Bray in the jaw. It was clear cut as they come and no call.

Also, wasn't a big fan of the new "catch rule". The vid replay of the Bear WR "catching" the ball with the help of the ground, last year was a no catch.

Its is pretty sad, but the only way this changes now is when someone ends up getting their head snapped back because they are hitting with their facemask.

In the mod forum planning your ban
Obama would have pressed the players to shoot cops at halftime....because that's radical and he's a wannabe cool guy

Not sure he has taken that approach

What part about LOWERING the helmet to make contact do you not understand? The fault isn't the rule, it was how it was called last night. That can, and hopefully will, improve. But there is nothing wrong with the rule itself as far as how it is written...

Oh, the fault is with how the refs called it. Who would have thought. It's not like the same problem exists with every other judgement based rule in the history of football or anything.

This...I think with it being preseason and the games not meaning much the refs are calling them tighter to look back and review to determine which ones were a little over the top and which ones fall within the true nature of the rule

This is probably the case, but it doesn't explain the obvious missed calls.

I'd bet good money that we will be frothing with rage in more than one game this season over an obviously terrible call that changes the course of the game.

Still doesn’t change the fact why the NFL is doing this. Future outlook. Simple logic. Yes there are parents still putting kids in football. I never said they were not. But there are parents taking them out for that particular reason as well. Which is more than before and still going.

Good intentions don't make it a good rule. Don't know why that is such a difficult concept.

Someone’s opinion for not liking the rule doesn’t make it a bad rule. Don’t know why that is such a difficult concept.

I was watching an Urlacher career highlights video on YouTube last night (in the spirit of things). Unfortuntely, his franchise record 1,229 should actually be 29.... 1,200 of them are 15 yard penalties. His 41 and a half sacks? Yeah, 13 now. He wouldn't make the hall of fame in todays NFL. Dont even get me started on Butkus!

I guess I gotta turn in my man card. I never watched football for the vicious hits.

I suppose if they changed the rules without telling him about it.
