My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Thoughts on the Bears draft—

• I think we got sniped in just about every round, but especially 1st/2nd.
• Could very well have gone Banks at #10 or Henderson/Judkins in 2nd
• They may like some of our players more than we do, an improved OL will help a lot.
• Yes, I'm a little surprised they didn't take a RB until the 7th.
• Love the Loveland pick—those two TE sets are going to be amazing. Kmet is TE2.
• Love the Burden pick—we don't have Scott as our WR3—we have three really good WRs.
• So whether 2WR/2TE or 3WR/TE we have upgraded this team.
• I really like the OT/DT picks in the 2nd. Very strong picks there IMO.
• The LB looks fast—seemed like a reach, but traits? Allen?
• Frazier and Newman I don't expect to be anything.
• And Monongai? Meh.

Overall I think I give this draft an A- to B+ overall. Excited to see how this all plays out.
Not all starters come from 1st and 2nd round. I think Frazier might become safety help. Don’t snooze in Al Harris. He developed really good DBs at Dallas. Texas A&M coaching was putrid. Turner might be a dark horse like Dexter with good coaching. Burden needs discipline but has all the tools to succeed. Randle El will help with that.

I am less enthusiastic about the draft, but hope some of my concerns are overly negative. But here they are.

The first round pick: I think Warren is the better player. He pretty much almost carried the whole offense on his back and excelled in almost every aspect of the game. Hopefully Loveland will be an excellent player and still has time to improve. But Warren should have been the pick
Burden has super athketicism. The problem is one of personality and attitude, not ability as a football player. Hopefully great coaching can improve that attitude, but there is a potential downside to Burden if he resents limited PT and targets.
I like Ozzy Trapilo. He may have been drafted a little high, but I;m ok with that as he is known to be an outstanding pass protector and that is what is needed in light of the number of sacks of CW.
I'll defer to the decision makers on Shemar Turner.
Ruben Hyppolite. Seems to be a major reach. Liklely would have been a 6th or 7th rounder or even an udfa.
Zah Frazier. Is appaently not the sharpest tool in the box. Can he understand assignments? Again, probably drafted too high.
Luke Newman. I'll defer to the decision makers here also.
Kyle Monangai. Fine for a 7th rounder I really would have preferred a faster and higher rated RB as we were led to believe that Johnson values the run game. I don't have a lot of confidence in Swift and an upgrade was needed.

So I'd say a C+ or B-. But if the coaching is as good as we hope, the grade will improve as the wins accumulate. Failure to draft a good pass rusher is a problem for a team that was near the bottom in sacking opposing QBs.

I seem to be one of the few that don’t believe Hyppolite was a bad reach.

We are going on the media estimate of his value as opposed to what teams thought of him. He had about 10 NFL team visits so there was certainly interest from other teams.

The media draft value numbers are not the be all end all.

Time will tell if any of these picks work out, but I would hesitate to call him a reach at this point.

When i heard Hyppolite was the pick and the shock wore off, I wondered if maybe they are going to convert him to safety? He has insne speed, who knows. Speed wise, huge upgrade at weak side

I think they view him as a linebacker. His visit was with the linebackers coach. I think they see him contributing heavily on special teams day 1 and honing his pro linebacker skills to become a credible backup.

I agree that he will be utilized as a LB, not transformed to a Safety. He will be a project for the coaching staff to build up. They seem to love his extraordinary speed.

How can you not? I watched some of his film after the pick and he plays very fast downhill. I think he will be a really good special teamer to start. At the 4th round if you get a standout special teamer, you had a successful pick.

Zierlein projected him as a 5th rounder and he was selected at 132, 7 picks before the 5th round so yeah, quite the reach.
He was a head scratcher for sure as I, along with probably everybody here never heard of him.
But if you look at some of Zierlein's analysis, maybe this was a sleepy good pick.
If I'm a scout and see blazing speed coupled with natural instincts, I might think that maybe we have something here if we move him out of the middle over to the weak side. And that blazing speed sure could come in handy chasing down some of these mobile QB's.

he has the kind of speed that is rarely dismissed out of hand by NFL evaluators. The more one watches, the more one realizes he plays with natural instincts to sniff out and pursue the play. It appears his lack of take-on technique and tackle consistency will be his biggest hindrances at the next level. A move to Will linebacker could free him from some of the physical rigors inside and allow him to highlight his pursuit speed, but he needs to prove he can make more plays in coverage.

Strengths

  • Made 46 career starts over five seasons.
  • Showed blazing speed for a 236-pound inside linebacker at pro day.
  • Solid job of recognizing and reacting to play design.
  • Good pacing and mirroring of the runner in his lateral scrapes.
  • Has plus acceleration to chase and tackle or close on throws underneath.

I don't think he starts day 1. But he will be a solid contributer to special teams. Hopefully he can develop into an NFL starter. In round 4, that is as about as much as you can ask of your draft pick.

day 3 players are all traits and developmental by nature anyway.
It's basically a 5th round pick, you take a shot and see what can happen.

I think they would’ve gotten an A from me had they addressed DE at 132 with Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins or Bradyn Swinson, safety at 169 with RJ Mickens or Jaylen Reed, RB at 195 with Damien Martinez, then LB at 233 with Hyppolite.
