Mock Before the Draft
1. S CALVIN PRYOR
LOUISVILLE
I'll go with the consensus here. Most signs are pointing to us picking Pryor. Great player, tremendous skill, athletic, and can start right away.
2. ILB C.J. MOSLEY
ALABAMA
It's possible that Mosley falls into the 2nd round with LBs like Shazier, Van Noy, and Dee Ford possibly going ahead of him. If he falls to our pick in the 2nd, it's a no brainer and can even start in place of DJ Williams (who is only on a 1 year deal and is injury prone.)
3. RB TRE MASON
AUBURN
I'm also hoping Mason falls to the 3rd. Many people are saying that RBs don't have 1st round/high value in the draft anymore. Anyway, Mason could fall to the 3rd with guys like Sankey, Hyde, A. Williams, Hill, Seastrunk, and maybe even Dri Archer may go ahead of him. Fills a huge void as #2 RB.
4. CB DONTAE JOHNSON
NORTH CAROLINA STATE
DJ has good value in the 4th and also a versatile CB/FS. I think the 4th round is fair for him, as there is better talent with Desir, Jean-Baptiste, Phil Gaines, & etc. going ahead of him. Therefore, his skills need refining, but he is very athletic and had a good combine. Superior size at 6'2 200 &
4.45 40 speed though!
5. DT KELCY QUARLES
SOUTH CAROLINA
His knock on him is that he underperformed even playing alongside Clowney. He still had 9.5 sacks and 13 TFL. Good size for a 3-technique at 6'4 299 lbs. It's possible guys like Ego Ferguson, Caraun Reid, McCullers, Brent Urban, & etc go before him.
6. OT LUKE LUCAS
KANSAS STATE
Lucas is an interesting pick here. Tremendous size at 6'8 310+ and has
36.75 in arms! His knock is he's very raw, needs a lot of work, and only has 1 year of starting at LT (2 years total & spent the previous year as a reserve). We could use a young swing tackle for depth and hopefully he doesn't turn out to be a J'Marcus Webb type player.
6. NT RYAN CARRETHERS
ARKANSAS STATE
Good value in the 6th as a lane clogger and would add to the DLine rotation. He's not a good pass rusher, needs refining, and his arm length is ~31 in (I guess that's average).
